Gents, I'm about to purchase a set of Kooks 1-7/8in headers for my 14 GT500. I've already decided to have professionally ceramic coated by Jet-Hot, mainly just to keep the under-hood temps down (based off my past experience with my 04 Cobra....may she rest in peace :(). My question is how hot are the average exhaust manifold/header temps on these cars? Jet-hot has 3 different heat rated options for coatings, 1250, 2000, and 2500 degree. They recommend the Ultra Extreme 2500 for supercharged applications, but I'm wondering if this may be a bit overkill for my particular application.

For a little background, the car is basically a FBO (CAI, TB, Pulley, and soon headers and catted h-pipe). Also, the car is a garage/dyno queen and does not see the track. I basically take it out every now and then when I'm feeling "ornery"...LOL.

Retired 13Fox here...not sure what you do in the military.

I'd say if you have the coin do it. American Racing makes em with ceramic too. Thats the route I will probably go. Same kinda driving habits as you.

18Z on short final.
I looked into American Racing, but they don't make an H-pipe for our cars. After a lot of extensive research, I pretty much have my mind set on the Kooks.

Ceramic coated AR LTH here. With how tight the clearances are and the heat generated, it was a no brainer IMO. In the scheme of things the minor cost adder outweighs the disadvantage of the extra heat. Plus, you'll enjoy the exhaust sound more with the LTH :)

So the real question to answer here is, is there a downside to more coating?
I would think not and the more the better. We all know how damn hot these bays get and how that affects IAT's. If it were me, I would probably go as high as I can get. lol

I have ARH long tubes with their catted H-pipe?

How long ago did you purchase them? According to their website, they're just selling X-pipes now, at least for the Shelbys.

I would agree, but cost is also a consideration. The Ultra Extreme 2500 option cost twice as much as the 1250 ($800 vs $400). No argument that more is better.....but is it cost effective for my particular application? Hence my core question, how hot do the headers get with "typical" driving?

they get hot enough to ruin any fun in the summer.
Simple test is put a digital thermo on your pipes. You will probably see 800ish* temps. So the lower will be fine.

Yeah, tried that .....but by time I pulled over to check them after a few runs on the highway, I suspect the manifold had cooled a bit (read just under 500 degrees). I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and go with the Ultra extreme 2500. Thank you all for your input.
