I went and traded my 2010 c300 very clean and great shape into a kinda somewhat beat up 2006 ram 1500 big horn. I just needed a truck to go dirt biking wherever I want to, rather than whenever my friend with a truck wanted to, so here I am.

Any recommendations on these? How are they? Reliable? It has 133k miles and seemed to run decent on the way back home other than the wheels/tires needing some serious balancing.

Service the transmission. Might as well take care of all the running gear while you’re at it.

I had a 2005 Ram Daytona rcsb. Truck was a beast. Ran like a top and quick. No issues with that truck except for the dreaded EVAP issue, which is common for those truck in those years.
Got a new gas tank/fuel pump, etc., out of it for free because it was an emissions fix. Other than that, awesome truck.
Good luck!

I’ve got a ‘07 2500 with 215k, my co-worker has an ‘04 1500 since new. I’ve serviced it since new as a favor. Only things I’ve had to do was plugs/wires, water pump at 240k, a valve spring replacement on cylinder 5 or 7 I believe it was(which I know they had an update for) and fluid/filter changes and brakes...in other words TIMELY regular maintenance. He now has 270k on it. It’s been a solid dependable truck as long as you take care of it.

does it have the Tick?
No tick. Idles quiet and smooth.

transmission doesn’t jerk at all. It shifts very smooth from what I can tell. Heck it felt smoother than my Benz. It does shake on the highway, feels like tires Need balancing

Sounds like a solid pick up. Any info on last tune up?

super solid truck, as with most, the failures happen with the transmissions at higher mileage. Service it now (just a drain NOT a forced flush) and should last you another 40-50k.

The guy said he had done the transmission flush and that some big part, like a cover or tray or something at the bottom of it was replaced. Honestly dont remember it. I was too tired when he was talking.

Those trans can be problematic but serviceable. Make sure the flares are not hiding any rust. Typically forms around rear wheel wells. Those are sport wheels, a nice upgrade. Run 5w30 oil. Redline if you want the best imo. I have had awesome oil analysis on my last 3 changes after switching to redline. If it's quiet now that's a great sign. Keep good oil in it and don't idle alot at temp. Hot idle is what kills these hemis.

I have a 2008 1500 with the Hemi, it has the tow pkg so it has 3.90 gears, it's quick (for a truck). I've had it since 2013, no issues.

I just talked to a guy that has a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 with the 5.7 HEMI he ordered new. He has 338,000 miles on it! Original transmission and engine.

Service the trans and keep the oil changed. I would flush the coolant system being as old as the truck is myself.

Would buy again. I don’t think they make the 4.7 anymore
