My wife and I used to ride our bicycles several times a week when we lived in Ohio. The area we lived in was nice and flat so we enjoyed riding.
When we moved to Wisconsin a couple years ago we gave up riding because there are more hills in our area to contend with and we are getting older.

Today we decided to remedy the situation and purchased a couple electric bikes. My wife got a IZIP cruiser style electric bike and I ended up with an E-Lux Tahoe classic (fat tire cruiser). We've only spent a very short time on them but we think they are Awesome. We can now go back to riding bike without the stress of worrying about the hills in our area.

Are there any other electric bike riders on the forum and what has been your experience with them?

My wife is contemplating converting her beach cruiser to electric. The shop she bought it at will convert it. I have an electric scooter and they are a ton of fun. Mine goes around 23 mph and will travel 25 miles. I think electric bikes tend to be faster than their scooter counterparts. Is yours capable of manually being ridden or is it full electric?

They are awesome. They open up a huge range in travel as you're no longer tied to your stamina. Many people can't go far on bikes, toss in the summer heat, and it is a pretty dreadful experience except for those in really good shape. It's a surefire way to make biking fun rather than a chore for many people. It is now much easier to ride a bike if you have chronic health problems as well. It is a 100% win for getting people outside and doing stuff. It'll be great for biking as a sport once the purists calm down.

I had the pleasure of riding a luna cycle (not the sur-ron) with the 2000W boost motor on it with throttle - it's essentially a budget dirt bike with pedals. It's a great time. The pedal assist bikes are really good too - hills are not an issue. There are a ton of restrictions on them in my area (can't take them on mountain bike trails, etc.) but I have a feeling that will change in the coming years.

I'm torn on the use of e-bikes.

On one hand, I think they're great for disabled people and elderly. It makes sense. But, on the other, most people are just lazy pieces of shit who couldn't be bothered to better themselves and take the easy way out for most things in life, to include pedaling a bicycle.

OP, I'm not insinuating you are the later. Just understand that, if you can pedal an e-bike now, you can pedal a regular bike now too. Yes, you can go further. Yes, you can pedal longer. However, if you just stuck with it you would be able to do those things eventually with a regular bike but also be in MUCH better shape.

I was biking 60-80 miles a week on average on my road bike. I also ride mountain bikes. In April my dad and I ordered E bikes after talking to a few people we ran in to riding them. At first I was also against them, thinking what’s the point? I started doing research on them, basically you get out what you put in. You can work as hard as you want and use the motor to supplement speed, or you can use the hand throttle and do absolutely zero work. Several studies show Ebike owners get more exercise than regular bike owners because they ride more frequently and go further distances on average.

I purchased a 2020 Rad Rover. It has a 750 watt motor with 48 AH battery. It goes 25 mph and the range varies from 35-50 miles on the battery depending on the peddle assist. You can go from 0 assist to 5. I usually cruise around on PAS 3 and that puts me at 16-18 mph. I ride it every day I absolutely love it. I have not rode my other bikes once since getting it.

I have 350 miles on it now and have had zero issues besides keeping my wife off it, so I got her one as well. Best money I have spent in a long time.

It has 3 modes, manual (regular bike), pedal assist (5 levels) and full throttle. Top speed is between 20-25 mph with a range between 20-30 miles.

Again, the reason my wife and I got the e-bikes was because our area has numerous hills that prevented us from enjoying riding bikes. I am in my mid-fifties and my wife is in her early 60's.
The electric bikes allow us to enjoy riding again because we no longer have to stress about pushing our bikes up some of the steeper hills. With the pedal assist, we can now pedal our bikes up the hills.

I see you use a wide pedal. What brand is that?
I just changed out the stock pedals on my e-bike with the Straightline SC platform pedals I had on my other bike.
I need the wider pedals with pedal extenders to keep my feet (4E) from hitting the crank arm.

I like that one a lot! Wouldn't mind owning that one. ;)

My wife and I just bought cruiser bikes (non-electric) for exercise, and because we really don't have any hills, per se. The is a walking/bike path (Quinnipiac Trail) behind our house that runs from New Haven up to (I think) Springfield, MA. Very convenient. I do, though, have an issue with electric bikes being allowed on this paved 12' wide walking/bike path. They routinely speed along at 20-30mph, and IMO that's dangerous. Their are people walking, running, biking, and electric biking, including young children. These electric bikes are just going too fast for the conditions, but there are no speed limits on the trail. There are, though, prohibitions on motorized bikes. The electric bikes get a pass (for now) because they're not motorized. Electric skate boards are often seen, as well. With the growing number of people using the Trail, at some point someone is going to get hurt. Our property abuts the Trail, so I can sit on our deck, and it's amazing how fast the electric bikes wiz by. Too bad we don't have a dedicated trail for them.

I'm not anti-electric bikes. I wouldn't mind having one myself. They're definitely becoming more and more popular. But they need to be driven where they're safe, and where others are safe.

Here's a neat one. A HIMIWAY CRUISER All Terrain Electric Fat Bike. Cost is $1399. 750W, 35 mph, with a range of 35-60 miles.

I did a lot of research before buying. The RAD Power bikes had consistently good reviews and minimal complaints toward the company or the product. They are back ordered several months at this point.

Ahhhh....Springfield.....the armpit of Massachusetts.
LOL! Yep. It is a nice Trail, though. Wife and I typically bike from Cheshire down to Hamden (CT) or Cheshire through Southington. Scenic and pretty flat.

I love cycling! I try to ride at least 125 miles a week. I’ve also raced at state and national level. Most commuters in Germany have e-bikes. Loved teasing them when I was there. Been thinking about getting an e-bike for the house. So either the wife or son can go out and keep up with me. And/or I can draft on my easy ride days.
Bike looks good, OP.
