Hi again Bs and Gs,

Who or what shop is the “go to” for having a motor built? I’ve talked to a few shops and have been patient but was wondering what the consensus was around here. I’ve seen enough of the threads of where not to go but not any in the positive direction.

Any input is welcomed.

Hope everyone is staying safe.

I’ve read mixed reviews on MMR. Seems like a few companies use their stuff though. I priced a short block a while back with me supplying the teskid block. I’m wanting to say it was somewhere around 12-13k with sleeving. This was also their 1500hp short block with all the added goodies. I talked to Tim at MPR and it was around $16k. This was if stuff in my heads had to be replaced. I’ve already had them built but they have sat for a while. If nothing needed replacing the price would drop.

Isn’t accufab the old SHM?

No I don’t believe so but I could be wrong. Maybe in the past they worked together supplying parts to one another? I’m pretty sure John Mihovetz at accufab is his own show now building billet blocks and stuff. Pretty cool to know one of the fastest mod motor builders and racers is local to me. Too bad I can’t afford him haha

Accufab and SHM are two different entities. I sold a couple timing covers to a guy that had two engines built by Mihovetz in sand rails. Apparently they were buddies. And apparently you need 1100hp in a sand rail.

I'm fully prepared for that kind of money. No worries in that department. I just want the motor I put in my car this time as bulletproof as possible. I don't plan to rag it or turn it up to it's limits but I want it done with confidence. I will have all of the supporting mods done properly as well as I go. I'm still curious to find what exactly when wrong with my last motor but after getting it apart will have more definitive answers. I hope it was a case of a random mechanical failure as I did notice it had been gone through before installing and was sold to me as stock terminator long block.

Anyone with accufab experience, what does their cost look like? I have my own teksid block as well as brand new DC casting heads I plan to use. I keep hearing John Mihovetz and many think very highly.

@CobraSam I live in Jacksonville and willing to travel. I have a great motor builder in my area (Mark Hedrick) but want someone I know is confident in the mod motor field. I also contacted Jordan at Modular Head Shop in Orlando. After seeing Jordan's work, I would like to consider him but I called and he has explained it would be a while until he was able to get to a build for me. I am willing to wait and really appreciate his honesty more than anything when I ask a question like that but it has been a little bit and my mind started to wander.

Thank you everyone for your feedback so far.

It might be worth a phone call to accufab. You can probably talk to John himself. Seems like a down to earth guy. Don’t quote but I’ve only HEARD how much his engines are.. I can’t say exactly how much but what I did hear was something ridiculous like $30-40k and he builds it his way, the strongest way possible.

I went with a reputable local builder here and it still cost me upwards of $15k, parts and labor. It added up so fast it was ridiculous. $20k+ if you count the blower...

I've luckily spent a few coins here and there already on some bigger ticket items. Blower (VMP 2.65 but debating a whipple), T56 Magnum, fuel system stuff, AMP PnP, ect. Just need a motor now.
