How often do you sharpen?
I tried a straight razor for a couple of months a few years back. I really wanted to like it but never got the hang of it.

I have a rotation of razors but if I use the same one every day it last about 3 weeks before it starts tugging. I have a wicked beard so it wrecks edges faster than normal.
I've since switched to a shavette and I put a new blade half in every morning. I switched because I sent all of my straights out for honing and I wasn't happy with the edge that came back and haven't been motivated to rehone them myself. Shavettes are much less forgiving but are sharp as **** which makes for a faster shave so it has its benefits.

It took a good 6-9 months to become proficient.
There's so much horrific advice and tutorials on youtube that it doesn't surprise me when people struggle.
Have a beard, shave the remainder 2 times a week.
