Ohio speeding ticket question

I want to start this off by saying, YES, I was speeding. My only question is that is it legal for the officer to be sitting "dark" before pulling me over? No headlights, just the vehicle sitting there. I believe that i already know the answer, but wanted to ask. Again, this is Ohio in Franklin county. I looked around on google and got some really stupid responses. Wow. Thanks guys and keep up the good work.

Yes they can sit with no lights on, I'm assuming its not a State Trooper on the interstate, I've never seen them sit no lights in the dark for obvious safety reasons but city cops and sheriff's, yeah I've seen them in the dark no lights on.

Not only is it legal but its common. Troopers will often follow behind u in the dark with no headlights on to creep up on u from behind so sitting in the dark is done all the time.

Remember, every state has a statute pertaining to the Police being EXEMPT from motor vehicle laws while in the performance of their duties as long as they use due caution while doing so. They can speed, go up one-way roads, do u-turns where prohibited, etc....

They (local Ohio township) got me hiding in behind a line of bushes with the lights off.
I also thought it was BS, maybe illegal, but after a quick search fuming on the way home, sure enough it’s legal.
He gave me some smart ass response that I’d been speeding if he had his lights on or not, to which I told him not necessarily as if I see another vehicle I’d be driving more defensively.
Either way, I think this is a terrible practice.
