10 years ago I said goodbye to my beloved 2003 Sonic Blue Cobra with only 7k miles. I absolutely loved that car but life was moving along and I was entering Police College as I had just been hired by the federal police. The training was long and the car sat in my brothers garage under a cover for over a year, to keep it maintained my brother would take it out every once and a while. I eventually was stationed out west in the mountains, the car was low and I was living in a rented basement apartment with no garage. At the time just dating my future wife we made the decision to sell the car and bank the money to save up for a home/start a family. The funny thing is I didn't really miss the car that much because life travels so quick, for me having my kids and getting married far outweighed seeing her go. Fast forward 10 years and I'm in the process of building my new home with double garage and I have 2 children (6 & 8).

I showed my daughter a nostalgic pic of daddy's old car, she asked why I sold it and I was honest with her and said that mommy and daddy wanted to start a family and needed the money to make that happen. Her response was classic from her " That's so sad daddy, that was a nice car", can you get a another one and take us for rides?". It made me realize how much I missed it and wanted my kids to now share in the enjoyment of going for drives.

Well I just put a deposit down on a 2004 Comp Orange with 13k miles, pick up Tuesday.

I guess the moral of this story is never let your passion die just because life gets in the way. One day you will not be around to enjoy things like these and I look forward to the smile on my daughters face when we take it out for the first time.

Last pic I have of my old SB before it left for the new owner. Thankfully I wasn't in the province to see it go.

Nice hearing you circled back around. I can relate as I had a Black Cobra in ‘04 in College. Had to sell out of necessity and was tough in 2008, flat broke, but the passion never died.

When the time was right, was never a question for me to look at any other car but to get back into a Cobra.

Got back into one in 2016
Later bought a second one in 2020

I guess I can kind of relate. I said I would own one before turning 30. I missed the first deadline of 30 due to other thing being more important.

My mom was 61, and fully stabile enough to retire. She kept putting it off until she found out she was going to be a grandma. She planned to retire in 2015, but died two weeks after being diagnosed with cancer and a month after her first grandchild was born.

In 2015, a buddy of mine found a really nice Foxbody for sale that I went to look at. It was in my price range. I looked at it and liked the car. A buddy of mine hopped on Craigslist to see if any other ones were for sale and came across a Cobra that had just been posted at 9:30 PM that same night. He told me about it and we couldn’t believe the price. Had to be a scam. I called the next day and the guy said he had to sell the car ASAP because he needed quick cash. He said the car was already sold and I was relieved. I told him thanks and let me know if the deal fell thru, I might still be interested.

The thoughts of my goal of owning one before 30 crosses my mind, then thought of my mom waiting to retire and never making it. A couple hours later the seller called and said he was getting phone calls left and right and the guy who said he was buying it never showed. Since I was the 2nd person to call, he wanted to be fair about things as he was taking names down in the order that they called. I called my boss, told him I would be late and drove an hour and a half to look at the car. It wasn’t perfect by any means, but I fell in love with it when I pulled into his driveway and saw the back side of her. I took it for a drive, grinned ear to ear and told him I would think about it.

I went home, talked to the wife and we talked about my mom waiting to retire and never making it.

I called the guy, we made a deal, and I bought the car that I still own today. It’s the car in my sig.

I pulled the engine a few years back and about a year and a half later, I had put it back together. The day I fired my Cobra off again after almost a year and a half was 4 years exact to the date that my mom died. I didn’t plan it that way, but that car brought great joy to me on the worst day to date in my human life.

Happy to say I still have mine. I once considered selling my 03 cobra coupe, bought it new new back in May/June of 03 I think. But I decided to keep it since the wife and I were planning on having kids and wanted a backseat so the family could enjoy the car as a family. I was looking at some C6 ZR1’s, even went and test drove a couple. I just wasn’t really all that impressed with them though, so decided to keep my Cobra and just mod it till I felt satisfied. Few years later decided to add a second 03 Cobra to the stable, this time a vert. My family loves the cars with me, well at least I think they do. Daddy has a car addiction, but they at least tolerate it lol. Much of our family activities involve/relate to cars. Glad to see others like yourself getting back into a cobra and sharing your toys with the family.

Sorry to hear about your Mom. How the engine came back in place is a great thing imho.

I can relate to most of what you said in a big way. But I never owned another Terminator.

Congratulations on finding a really low mileage CO Terminator. Enjoy it. Your daughter will never forget her first ride in it. ;)

Sold my mach 1 7 years ago to fund the down payment on our first house. My daughter found a picture of it and wanted to ride in it. 2 weeks later got into my cobra. Sometimes the sacrifice is well worth it.

I'm fortunate to have been able to hold onto pretty much every car I really cared for. My daughter loves every one she's ridden in, sometimes she's not in the mood for a high boost hit in the terminator but what do you expect for a 2.5yr old.

I have a similar story. I previously had a 2003 Cobra Silver Metallic 10th Anniversary Coupe. I loved the car and hated to sell it but none the less I sold it in 2007 because life was happening. Always knew I would get another one some day when the time was right. Flash forward 13 years and I have a wife, two kids, and own a home and I am in a position where I could buy another. I just picked up an Oxford White 2003 Cobra in June and I have been enjoying it since. My wife is not into it at all unfortunately but my oldest son (3yo) is interested and enjoys riding in it with me.

I've done that 5 times now.

Gets me everytime... except for my DSG car... that was a piece of shit.

So you've had 5 Terminators, Nate. Two Sonic Blue Terminators. Your current ride is awesome!

Sold my 2003 10th Cobra 9 years ago to bye the then new 2012 Camaro, big mistake in hind site.
Have had a several nice cars since then but always had a soft spot for the Terminator.

Here in Sweden they are rare but I managed to bag a 2003 Redfire vert this year and it feels god to be back.

Perfect timing!! My kids ranged from 7 to 10 years old in 2002 when I picked up my cobra and we had so much fun with it. This is what got all 3 of my kids interested in how things work. We were always doing something to the car (adding something or upgrading another), and usually one of the kids was helping me. As the kids got older we really got into it. When my son was 15 I taught him basic machining and blue printing when we pulled the factory SC and ported and polished the inside and show polished the outside.

and me and my daughter Dana replaced the headers, k-member and my daughters Jessy, Dana and I put in the Coilovers and all new suspension. I probably got 300 to 400 hours of some of the best times of my life working with and teaching my kids how to work on that car. AND the best part is I NEVER had to ask them to help rather I always had to tell one or two of them it was their brother or sisters turn. Every project I did with my kids somewhere on one of those parts is their signature signifying that this car was part of their own.

Now my kids are grown up but I have memories and hundreds of pictures working with my kids. I envy you because your experience is just about to begin if you choose too.

Awesome stories everyone! Hearing stories like these remind me why I never plan on selling mine.

I've owned my car since 2010, not as long as some. But everytime I get behind the wheel it's a reminder how fortunate I am and truly how iconic these cars really are.
