I think the masks help to spread infection.

Think about how often you touch it, then a door, grocery store item, shopping cart, then the mask/face again. Constantly transferring germs from the mask, and surface germs back to your mask.

Watch other people. Constantly touching their mask and face now, which is natural with a mask on.

I think it creates a false sense of security. Normally someone without a mask would cough or sneeze into their arm or whatever polite gesture we are taught to mitigate spreading germs, but with a mask on many people believe it will catch their germs so they aren't taking the same amount of caution as they did before. They may still turn away from you when they sneeze but they sure as hell aren't sneezing into their arms which means all of those germs are spewing out through the mask into the air.

I think if anything the masks may have made it worse for that reason.

You should be using a new mask after everytime you eat or touch the inside of it by accident.

And people should stop resisting arrest, smoking, speeding , driving drunk and killing people...that’s worked well hasn’t it.

You are absolutely correct in the false sense of security.

One of the best and funniest things about the whole mask thing is this. I have to enter different hospitals and LTACs. One has this credentialing for vendors we have to pay for each year. Whatever, gets expensed. They sent me an email at one point and stated that we could not wear outside masks into the facilities to ensure they are new. A few weeks later they email and state we need to have masks on before we enter the facility and they do not provide them. SO, I go in wearing one from the outside and get the CoVid check done. I ask about a new mask from the box they have sitting there. They state they are for people without masks. I ask is it not the policy that we should be wearing new masks. They state yes and I proceed to BS and state I have been wearing the same one for two weeks. The nurse looked at me with this blank look and had no clue what to do. She just stated I was good to enter the facility after a minute of blank expression.

But, my new personal favorite in this is the people that walk around with face shields. Lol

But yes, we are expecting a society full of dirty people that cannot wash their own ass properly to help mitigate the spread of a virus where hygiene is very important. We are als relying on people that will dig into their chocolate dungeon then adjust their mask without washing their dirty little sausages. I mean, these are the idiots that make videos where they lick toilet seats for instagram likes.

I am in the camp that masks work and social distancing works in SLOWING the spread of a virus, but they don't completely stop the spread. I get it...if you stay away from everyone you can't catch what they have. Wash hands and keep your hands away from your face and you don't risk transmission from surfaces.

However, mask wearing has increased exponentially over the past 3-4 months yet the number of cases has risen exponentially as well. That just doesn't make sense to me. Sure, not everyone is wearing a mask and/or social distancing and/or not touching their faces/washing their hands, but the percentage of people doing all the right things is much, much greater than it was in 3-4 months ago, so why has the virus continued to spread at 40k-50k per day?

Because the opinion of "doing all the right things" is just that. An opinion and it's been proven false time and time again.

Sweden, herd immunity, /thread.

“Slowing the spread” lmfao.

Idiot sheep who buy that bullshit are the same ones who think waiting for a new president before we appoint a new SC Justice will stop democrats from rioting in the streets.

Get a ****ing clue already.

I’d seriously like to see a study of whether or not there is concentrated live virus on our mask and how long it lives for.

If I fart, you’re gonna smell it. When you smell a fart, you’re essentially inhaling Microscopic poo particles. So if you can smell my fart, do ya really think a torn up shirt around your face is gonna stop a airborne virus with even smaller particles? I think not.

I promise there is going to be live virus for a certain amount of time. It becomes muddied when you think on terms of each exhalation. Now, the virus particles from your first exhalation may not be alive. But you are constantly exhaling. The length of time will be determined by material. And if they ever figured out how long it actually lives on surfaces. Last I heard, which was a few months back, I believe they stated they believed that it was only a few hours on most surfaces.

1. It is not about the particular particle size but how it gets transported. As in Covid is hitching a ride on water droplets.

2. Masks, again unless they are N95, are not designed to protect the wearer. They are designed minimize the spread of whatever from the wearer. Hence the reason why surgical staff wear masks in an OR. It is to protect the patient not the OR staff.

Very true. I guess my description of "all the right things" meant following all government guidelines (whether they are right or not right).

All a bunch of crap to make us puppets.

Pretty good choice of words given that the few posts before you discuss farts and smelling farts. LOL

In general, most people can't see beyond their own myopic existence so it is not surprising that people don't care about the consequences of their actions. Much less on mitigating their risk. There is a pandemic going on and people think just because the country went through a partial lockdown, things can now go back to normal. A government can introduce policies that mitigate risk but eventually human behavior prevails.

Here is a different perspective. I live in Ontario and I would say just about everyone is wearing masks and its mandatory if you go inside anywhere. We are seeing an uptick in cases from 60 cases a day(2 weeks ago; population 14m) to 200 cases a day(week ago) and now we are around 350+ cases a day. It is difficult to quantify how effective masks are but the government here has been using contact tracing to find out the root cause of these cases and most of it is tied to large gatherings(parties, strip clubs) yet restaurants have few cases(indoor dining is allowed). The virus will be going in waves and the type of wave depends on the duration and acceleration of the spread.

And for the record, the only effective mask is a N95 medical grade mask that protects against moisture. All of these studies that are done with masks use that specific type as their basis. The shitty reusable masks you buy or surgical masks offer very little protection.

They are probably testing more people now then two weeks ago- hence more cases. My Canadian friends think we are all dying down here but they don’t understand that the USA has tested over twice the population of Canada and also we are 10 times the population. Testing more people = more confirmed cases. But in the end who cares? Death rates at all time low. Treatments at all time high. No lines at hospitals. Old people with deathly diseases are being more careful. 99% + survival rate.
