Is it just me or is it really hard to find a 2011-2014 GT for a reasonable price?

Long time member, but I haven't been in a Mustang for a while. I owned a 2013 WRX, which I bought new in 2013 and ordered in November of 2012. I out around $8k, maybe a bit more, and focused on only engine modifications and suspension modifications. I just wanted a reliable daily driver since my 99' GT which I bought bone stock turned into a single turbo car with a built block, TKO600, IRS swap from an 03' Cobra and became nearly impossible to DD.

Anyways I totaled my WRX 2 months ago, had a fractured sternum, fully recovered, and while I loved the WRX, I always missed RWD and desperately wanted to get back into a Mustang.

I've found it very difficult to find a 2011-2014 5.0 with low mileage for a decent price. I'm not picky, I just want it to be in good condition with relatively low mileage. I don't mind if it's an 11/12 or 13/14 or if it has no options, or is completely loaded. Most of the ones I see have a mark up that is just across the board from private sellers to dealers. Interestingly I can find a 2015/2016 5.0 with under 10k for around $28 and most of them are loaded at that price. The ones that are base models still cost the same price which I don't understand.

Sorry for the rant, but i've been out of the Mustang scene for a while and i'm looking to get back into another Mustang. I would prefer a 2011-2014 so I can spend around $8-9k on a WRX wagon for a DD. If I buy a 2015-2017 5.0, i'll have to DD it to work for a while until I can pick up another car to DD to work. Luckily work it only 6 miles away.

Thanks for any insight. For those wondering. The 2012 in my sig was a present to father which he barely drives, it actually has 2200 original miles, and the mods that are on it, i'm the one who bought them and installed them, except for the SCT XCAL 3.

Thanks for any insight.

I did an instant cash offer on my 2014 GT A6 vert and it came back at $20,500. Whether they would've given me that idk as that was for a stock car and mine isn't stock. Granted every used car is a lot higher right now, but there's a reason they are still priced where they are. Look at a S197 then look at a S550 and it becomes obvious why they are so close in price. That is until you sit inside them and the S550 feels like it's 2 generations ahead of the 2014.
If you're going to daily it I would get the S550.

I plan on it being a temporary daily either way if I get a 2011-14 or 15-17'. Around here the winters can be mild or snow pretty darn bad. That's why I want to pick up another Subaru for a DD during the winter months.

Yea you will definitely want a Subuar as a DD if you are talking snow. I am assuming you are getting two sets of tires? One for Fall/Spring/Summer and one for Winter?

I am sorry to hear about your WRX and your injury, happy you are doing better though. I agree with 7998 in that the 11-14gt is a better looking car, and pending the equipment, they perform very similarly to a 15-16 GT. The interior and tech are heavily in the S550's favor. Still, I am not shocked that the 13-14 GT's hold value well when they are low mileage and kept in truly great condition. I don't plan on selling my Mustang ever, but I do track its value every year just to see how she is holding up. Value for my Mustang has never been below $25K on the low side for KBB, and usually sits in the high $20's in stock trim.

I know what you mean, the 13's and 14's go for around $24K with 50+K miles around OKC. When I thought about trading my 2013 w/29K miles they offered me $17K, at the time I thought, hey, that's pretty good for a 7 yr old car. Then I looked up 13's and 14's around my area and saw them going for $24K and up. I bet they would have put my car out there for $25K easily.
I guess the market is high for these right now. I'm glad I decided to hold onto mine. Not because it's value but because how difficult they are to find, especially with lower miles.

It really is mind boggling. This is typical of WRX/STis, they hold their value very well and have done so for years. High mileage ones still maintain their price. There are 2011-2014 STis with 60-80k miles going for $24k+/- and they sell easily in good condition. 2015+ WRX/STis sell for $21-$30k and even with high mileage they maintain their value as long as they are in excellent condition and usually have some tasteful mods.

Mustangs on the other hand have always been known to drop in value, but the 2011-2014 GTs are a new ball game which I can't grasp and unfortunately it's exactly the car I want to buy.

I wouldn't sell my 2012 car for low 20s. I has 14k on it and it would be out of the 20s to get it. It has many mods and I know you can't get your money out of them but......
That's just me.

I'm curious what my father would get for his 2012 5.0. It has light bolt-ons, SCT XCAL 3, JLT CAI, Roush Axle Back, and a few more mods, but he's older now and rarely drive's it. The paint is pristine and he has made it his job to take every swirl mark and imperfection out of the paint that came from the factory. I don't know the exact mileage, but it is something like 2270 or something like that. I know it definitely doesn't have more than 2300 miles on it. I keep telling him it's a car and it's meant to be enjoyed, but he just leaves it in his garage. His 86' GT he bought new in 1986 had 36k original miles on it until he wrecked it in 05', but at least he would drive it around every weekend.

Some input on the topic from my experience. I picked up my 2013 GT premium for 19.1k with 25k miles on the clock from a dealer. Covid drove the price of these cars to levels they should not be at. I don't think these cars are worth near what they are going for.

It's my daily driver and I have no intention of selling. But I do wonder what it's worth now, I murdered it out, added full suspension, rims, exhaust, and a lund tune.

I am considering selling my low mile 2011. It’s in in great condition. I just put in the for sale section.

My 2012 5.0 is for sale as well. 2,664 original miles, well, I drove it today, so it yesterday, so like 2,700 some miles.

On that point I have found a 2011 GT premium and 2014 GT Premium with 41k miles and 39k miles. Both selling for $16,500 and $17,000 OBO. Might just be an anomaly for a couple cars.

OP, I have to ask... Why are you looking for the exact car you're selling?

I added 2011-2014 because this seemed to be the main market of vehicles with this "surge" of pricing that other groups of Mustangs weren't experiencing and I found it extremely odd. Before totaling my 2013 WRX, I was always aware WRX/STis retained their resale value very well. Especially blobeye (04/05) & hawkeye (06/07) STis. Well maintained, clean, and in good running condition, but even with 70-80k miles they would still garner upwards of $18-$20k+.

To answer your question though, I am in a sense looking for basically the same car. I'm more so focused on 2013/2014 models that are tastefully modded, and I am actually even more so considering 2015-2017 S550s that are tastefully modded too. I've bought so many cars, well, just in the past 10 years that were basically bone stock and I was the one to buy and installed every mod, except tuning and doing things I just don't have the actual tools for. While it is fun ordering a part online, ripping the box open, installing the part, then getting to start the car and take it for a spin is certainly gratifying, now I work more and have less time to do practically everything myself. When I totaled my WRX I fractured my sternum, late last year I fractured my T6 vertebrae, and it changed my outlook a little bit, now I want something that is not completely built, but has a chunk of the change already installed. I still have the tools, I mean literally, so I don't mind installing parts, but would like it if someone else would take the $10k hit on the parts they "invested" this time.

Sorry about your accident and injuries- that is really unfortunate. Your reasoning makes total sense... You can most definitely save a lot of money buying cars that have already been modded. I really enjoy the process of modifying cars, but have taken a bath more than once when eventually selling! The last two cars that I've purchased have been "built" for the most part as I would have done myself. I let the previous owners take the bath! The key is finding the right car with the right mods from the right buyer. They are out there, enjoy the hunt!

No worries man, I'm still kicking, so that means I can continue to keep searching for another car(s). I have time to keep looking and these year Mustangs aren't going to go up in value anytime soon, so i'm ok with waiting it out. In the meantime i'm trying to find an 05/06 Saab 9-2X Aero or 02-07 WRX Wagon for a DD. The Saab is just a WRX wagon built in the Subaru factory with Saab badges. These cars are amazing in the winter with snow tires. I can get one for a few thousand depending on the year and drive it while I continue to look for another Mustang to buy.

This is a good topic. Eventually I will be in the market for a new DD and am strongly considering a used mustang GT. I love working on the cars but prefer to buy something that has some mods as I don't have as much time to work on the car all day lol. I have the luxury of waiting to see what the market does but my thought process is the same. Find something nice, lower miles, modded, let the seller take the hit on mods installed, and enjoy it. Heck I would be totally open to one that has a Whipple installed. That way all the expensive stuff is out of the way and it's just tuning / tweaking from there.

I feel exactly the same! No point in taking a hit on thousands and thousands of dollars of aftermarket parts when you can buy a car from someone who has already done it and then add your own touch with performance parts that the previous owner didn't modify.
