We were limited to 30 minutes a day max when working in the storage igloos where the 30MM APIT was stored. Those depleted uranium penetrators are no joke when there's a 100,000 of them surrounding you.

But it's depleted. Friendly jest*** The same thing for all the DU frontal armor that the M1A1 Abrams had I think it was about the same when those boxes was open up for maintenance

I remember in the training class, being told, " no exposure to ionizing radiation is safe ",..........to protect yourself use, " time, distance, & shielding !!
Spent over half my career wearing a dosimeter, on a couple of " hot " jobs,...several..

I spent several years as a NDT tech using gamma ray radiation pills. I'll never forget the feeling of being exposed to the radiation while it was on it's way out of the camera into the collimator.

I'll also never forget when a co-worker and I were in a 32' sphere taking some shots. It's completely normal for your rate alarm to go off while moving the pill out of the camera, but it should stop buzzing when the pill reaches the collimator. Well, on this particular shot, the rate alarm never went off, and I thought the pill was stuck in the tube--definitely an oh-shit moment... A second later my the dumbass i was working with reached in his pocket and realized he never set the collimator. A sigh of relief, but still not fun having your rate alarm going off for what seems like an eternity while you're getting dosed.

So a MK56 Underwater Mine is a buoyant mine so it has an anchor and a cable to hold it in the desired water column. To keep the cable from rusting and acquiring too much sea growth it's coated with PCB's or polychlorinated biphenyls. It was banned in 1978 for production and the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), rendered PCBs as definite carcinogens in humans. When I was an E-1 I made a comment after a Mine Build-Up about our guys signing off paperwork after working on the anchor and sending the clip board and pen down the assembly line for everyone else to use. Did they listen to an E-1..NOPE.

There are not many folks left like you out there. Much respect.

Perhaps you missed the part where he said he was offered the protections of the job but failed to utilize.

Even with what they offer and if you wear it you may still get damage, and hearing protection is a perfect example. I used disposable hearing protection the entire time and some of those were even the 3M ear plugs that are now the source of a class action lawsuit due to being faulty and not offering actual protection.

I probably received the initial damage to my ears in CQB school. Going through shoot houses I had my hearing protection in every time but there was one time where I forgot to put them in because I was nervous as I was doing a test so after realizing it right after taking my first shot in the first room there was no stopping and telling the instructors as they probably would have failed me on that test for not being prepared. So I went through a shoot house shooting dozens of targets without ear-pro in a close quarters environment and it was hell! I knew right away I had ****ed up big time. That was the only time that was entirely my own doing though. Another time the spongy ear-pro expanded in my ear in a way that didn't seal completely so I was getting some pretty loud cracks coming through whenever I shot and I had ringing after that run. Everything was moving too fast in the house so again, couldn't stop and fix it and had to deal with the damage being done. I also wonder about the time I had my ear-pro in correctly and all was good but I entered a small room and took my shots on target and after each shot my vision flipped upside down and I started to lose balance and began to stumble backwards. It all happened so fast and as my vision immediately flipped back right I took a follow on shot and it did the same thing again and I eventually hit my back on the wall behind me as I fell into it. So it was basically temporary vertigo brought on by the concussion of each round richocheting off the rubber matted walls next to me and bouncing right back at my head. It was really weird and luckily I haven't had issues with vertigo or anything, but another guy said he had the same thing happen to him in the same room.

Those are the types of instances that happen all the time to people though and it is good to be covered for stuff like that. The military is new to everyone in the beginning obviously so there are a lot of things you think you are prepared for but are clearly ignorant to. It just takes years to really know how to protect yourself during training and other scenarios you regularly take part of.

Well well well here I am. I find it funny that anytime someone says something that the masses don't like, the gang mentality comes into play and then they attack that individual. It seems that most of you guys want to ignore the fact that this has been verified that he has said this. I can't force you to believe something or use common sense. If you guys want to get mad at something that is common knowledge feel free but don't say that I'm stirring the pot because I posted something that is all over the news.
Hell Fox News was the ones that verify the statement. Deal with it

Jeffrey Goldberg has walked it back.

Am I the only one that feels like this "losers and suckers" issue has faded away.

I have a feeling there are going to be a bunch more of these gotcha stories between now and the election.

What's that?
Your typical, pathetic attempt at a Trump bashing soirée. You want so much to be a victim of society and you have some erotic perversion to post utter nonsense on forums knowing most people who read it have a better concept of what the real world norms and standards are and know you will never rise to that level.
