I remember when they were doing this on the east side of Washington, with the ultimate aero? A few years back. That's an amazing run!

Wtf...it actually seems like it had much more left in it. It didn’t slowly creep to 330 by any means. Maybe gearing/rpm was the limiting factor?

But can you yank the wheel at 300 and have it save your ass like the Koenigsegg?

That was awesome watching him on that run. Such a smooth run. He was ecstatic at the end. As well he should be. I just cannot imagine going 331 mph on a highway stretch. Sick!

Is it just me or do road signs going by at 250+ mph not seem as quick as you'd expect? Crazy deal all around though!

What tire is on this monster? That is some insane forces on a tire at those speeds.

And what is it with bald guys and going for the top speed records...

Theoretical top speed is like 352mph and they said they would have gone for it, but on the last run the crosswinds were so bad it blew the car 2 lanes over and onto the rumble strip at 300mph. When they saw the driver he was on his knees outside the car with his head in his hands saying "no more". He said it was within inches of being a disaster.

yeah at these speeds little mishaps can transform into killing mishaps

In the interview I posted the link to he says it picked up 20 MPH in the last 5 seconds of the run. Was indeed still pulling.

My guess is, they knowingly left something in the bag should someone come after their record in the future.

INSANE. What does it weigh? Seems strong even for 1800hp. Wonder how a 2500-3000hp GTR/Huracan would compare if geared for all out top speed.

The crazy thing is it seemed like it could have kept going is they had more room.

Crosswinds were the issue, not distance. They had already made a 2-3 passes and already had a record at like 29X average. The last run at that time was like like 303. The driver almost didn't want to make another pass, but they sort of egged him on a bit, especially since the direct the next pass would be in was the better of the two passes. I've made up all the above numbers, but it's a rough estimate. They were hoping for some number to get the average over 300, and well... that was the 331 pass.

Out of all the craziness of that car and that run what sticks out the most to me is that he thought it was safe to celebrate... at 200mph lol. Maybe Im just old but I am no where near brave/stupid enough to ever think of attempting something like that. Simply amazing that there is still a record left to be broke with that exact car, currently only limited by how tight you can clench your cheeks.

Looks like a big pushrod V8 tweaked with twin turbos and having a flat plane crank according to their website. They say Nelson Racing Engines made it from the ground up. Modern Chevy big block V8 is the launch pad most likely.

I just read about this in LSX mag. TTd FPC LS motor. Maybe this is what we will see in C8Z?

I thought the same thing, I would still be well puckered at those speeds

and.... THEY LIED!!!!!!!!

Consider them bankrupt because they just majorly ****ed up. You lie on the internet and you will get called out. That's just normal stuff. You attempt to lie about breaking a world record, you will get caught.

Where to start?

Right away there was some "how is that possible" talk, but we all saw the video and almost everyone fell for it. Next, I'll just steal this text from reddit and explain it after the video.

_______________

I think it is important to give credit to the guy who first uncovered this, a friend of mine named Jey Cee who goes by @jey_._cee on Instagram. He has long been involved with the Koenigsegg community/research and was the first skeptic to raise the alarm that this 331mph run might be fraudulent. He was the one who initially crunched the numbers, looking at both the medians and the spacing between dashed lines on the road, skimming the video frame-by-frame.

His work was then brought to a wider audience's attention through the Koenigsegg 4 Life Facebook group (22,000 members) and subsequently popularized by major pages on Instagram, namely @koenigsegg.registry and @ghostsquadron.koenigsegg. It is after this popularization that Tim (Shmee150) picked up on the topic and made this video.

Tim does an excellent job of explaining everything, I just thought I'd make sure there is credit given where credit is due.

The video with Tim, aka Shmee

So the above text, we have videos of both the Agera RS setting it's record and the Tuatara claiming 331 at the exact same spot. Jay Cee looked at both those videos and realized some oddities. Said highway has a U-turn area every 1.5 miles or so. The Agera went from the first one to the second in XX seconds and the Tuatara did is in a slower time period while claiming a higher speed. WTF?

Then comes Shmee with more number crunching. Stealing numbers from 10:07 in the video. Regarding the Tuatara, it was from the 1st to 2nd u-turn area in 22.64 seconds and being those are 1.13 miles apart(via google maps), that's an average speed of 179mph, yet in the video the car goes past the 1st one at 192mph, and hits the second at 307mph. The numbers don't add up.

Then Shmee got the gear specs for the transmission used, as well as the tire size, and the car would top out at 293.XX in 6th. Literally impossible to hit 331. Via still being in 6th and still pulling, that means the car only hit like 280ish, maybe less.

But the GPS, they used the same one that EVERYONE uses, right? Nope, they used a no name device. But Guinness was on hand to certify the record right? Nope.

Some were attempting to save SSC and claim maybe they made a mistake and used footage from a non 331mph run, and put the GPS numbers over that. Well... The guy who designed the car's body was on hand and did a 10 minute interview describing each run. They made some fun passes at like 150 to get a feel for the road. On the first somewhat serious attempt they hit like 280...according to them. That wasn't a full pass, just like a 80% to see how things go type pass. Next pass, they hit 305 or so, but had some serious side wind that basically moved the car 6 foot over on the top end. The driver was a little scared and they were thinking of just taking those two passes and calling it a 294 record of whatever the math was. The driver decided to make one more pass and that's the 331 pass you see. Now if they used the 280 pass video with the 331 gps numbers over it, why would the driver be so happy and pumping his fist as just a 280 when that wasn't even giving it it's all?

Lastly...why was the car's speedo blurred in the video?

SSC done ****ed up! SSC has turned off comments from their most recent instagram post after Shmee, and two other large YTers all made videos calling them out.
