Oh, and a fan shroud with twin 50x20 fans to cool the print, in place of the little single 4010 fan. I am printing about 60% faster with what I have listed and the excess cooling.

again, we've only printed like 3 things so I would imagine it could be sped up as is but that's a pretty significant difference. I see too many people posting about all the stuff they've done but never any info on what, if anything, actually got better...seems to be a lot people throwing parts at it just for something to do.

Still want to get more experience with it before messing with too much

Ok, now I want one. Question is, what would I use it for?

this is still a bit of a question I have about it even though we have one. I dont see sitting around printing a bunch of stuff for shits and giggles. It would either be something I need that I cant easily obtain or something to try and make money with. A local brewery/supply shop did ask my dad about possibly making some custom taps for them. You can look around places like thingiverse for existing files you can download and print.

Yeah I'd like to be good at it, make stuff to get some cash off it. But just thinking off the top of my head, I can't think of much. Thanks for the link, I'm sure there are tons that can be done.

I just received the Ender Xtender 400xl kit.

Go big or go home.

Ender Extender 400XL (For Ender 3 PRO)

saw your build in one of the FB groups, that thing is ridiculous lol. I think we're gonna print a couple more calibration test things this weekend and fine tune it a little more. The sample stuff has come out pretty damned well but see some little things that could probably be addressed.

I already have a guy in the mustang group that wants me to print him a test bracket for a brake kit he sells.

Question... what kind of 3D printer prints the metal stuff? Where would you get the materials to do that? I can understand the filament for ABS but how is it done for the metal materials?

It is basically an automated welder. But get out your wallet. The cheapest I have seen one go for is about $10,000, and they suck pretty hard. Expect to pay $100,000+ for something really good. Now, there are some metal infused polymers that can be printed with a standard 3d printer. They may be a little stronger, but in the end, they are usually at least 10% plastic.

3D printed sand molds for cast parts have made a huge impact in the aftermarket.

Oh, and a fan shroud with twin 50x50x15 fans to cool the print, in place of the little single 4010 fan. I am printing about 60% faster with what I have listed and the excess cooling. I also upgraded the hot end fan to a Noctua 4010 fan that runs a lot harder. Though I did need to add some buck converters to switch power to the fans and some lighting I added from 24v down to 12v. Noctua fans, even though they throw the air compared to others require only a 12v source.

so how many mm/sec are you able to run? We’re still at the default 50, seems like a ramp up to 75-80 is pretty reasonable stock

I really need to get one to start getting into this! My fiancee is all about it too and has looking really hard at the Snapmaker 2.0
The add one seam endless with how modular the design is. Anyone else have any experience or heard anything about that one?

Also, has anyone here used or planning to use a 3D scanner with their 3D printer?

I saw some people talk about using a Kinect but it’s not great. Consensus seemed to be a quality one was big money

It's possible with cooling, hot end and different stepper drivers. 70 seems to be where I can get away with near perfect prints. Also, this is the difference in build plate size from stock to the 400XL V2 kit.

Looking at several printers and every time I look at Amazon, it says currently unavailable. Is this a Covid/supply chain issue?

One of the penalties moving so much of our manufacturing to China.

eh, i mean for stuff like this I get it. Theres no way someone makes a printer like this in America for $200. Relying on China for things that actually matter is another story

Thanks to HISSMAN helping my wife select the proper device as a Christmas present, I am now the proud owner of the newest version (at least I think it is) of the printer he started with. Now to get it set up and start that learning curve...

if you havent already built it might be worth watching some of the youtube videos first. I dont know if we got lucky or not just throwing it together but walks you through squaring everything up, proper tension on the wheels etc... Once it's built take the time to level the crap out of the bed. The included print files are so dialed in they almost always print well then you go to another file and it prints like crap. We just used cheap HF calipers for the extruder measurement and on the test cube to dial in the steppers.

Good to hear! She was a bit nervous about getting one for you. The ender series is by far the easiest and most versatile printer on the market. Plus, for us guys that like to mod.... The sky is the limit!
