Swirl Tank Direction? Which is in/out?

Hey Guys,

On the swirl tank for the intercooler, which direction does the coolant flow? Does it come in the bottom and go out the top or come in the top and go out the bottom?

That's a great picture! Does anyone know if you can use the HE pump to pump out and change the coolant? Mine is wired on, with the key.

Probably not because the pump needs to be primed with water to work. So any air bubbles the pump will stop working.
You can flush most of it by disconnecting the HE, to completely change the coolant you'll have to flush the whole system a couple of times with new coolant.

You can jump the pump and use it to help get the coolant out. Like Black Cobra '99 said, it won't get all of it, once it loses prime, but it will help get a lot of it out. On my 2009 the small fuse box on the passenger side fender has the relay for the pump. You can jump it to run the pump.

As your diagram indicates, coolant flow enters thru the top of the reservoir tank and out thru the bottom.

Intercooler > Reservoir Tank > Pump > Heat Exchanger > Intercooler

I had no problem flushing my complete S/C cooling system. I completely blew the system out by removing the "in" hose from the top of the reservoir, then I put a rubber cap on that reservoir inlet nipple. I then put a 90 degree hose on the outlet nipple of the I/C and used a shop-vac hose to blow all of old coolant at the threaded cap opening 9with a towel wrapped around the shop-vac hose to seal it in the opening). I put a 1 gallon heavy duty Ziploc bag at the end of the 90 degree I/C hose and it received all of the old fluid and had to be emptied a couple of times during the process.

Once the old fluid was out and only air was going into the Ziploc, I then filled the reservoir with new/fresh coolant and began the "blow through" process again, being careful to keep new coolant in the reservoir not to let the tank empty (which would have allowed air into the system). Once I had clean coolant coming into the Ziploc I was done, I removed the cap on the reservoir nipple and the 90 degree hose from the I/C outlet and reinstalled the oem hose.......No air in the system and a complete flush of all hoses, pump, H/E and I/C. It was really simple......
