How are the capabilities of the SCT Advantage when it comes to tuning a 95?

Is a Moates drastically better than SCT and TwEECer for a 94/95?

I've been tuning OBD2 cars since SCT first came out with their PRP/Advantage years ago. I also have experience tuning a 94 with a TwEECer. I see there is a lot of buzz out there now to go with Moates for 94/95.

My plan is to use a T4M0 computer with the ZAO bin on a 95.

I am considering adding the 95 database to my SCT PRP/Advantage or purchasing a TwEECer. I'm quite familiar with SCT and have a spare 4 position SCT chip. However, the downside is that putting the ZAO bin on the T4M0 may not be as simple and I'd still need a Moates for logging.

Thoughts?

sct has very poor support for anything eec-iv and eec-v basically 2004 and older. If all youve used is sct you wouldnt know any better though.

Tweecer is outdated and limits you significantly also restricts you to either BE or Caledit which has decent support for cbaza.

The QH is cheaper and allows you to use the free custom tuning software TunerPro which is far superior. The datalogging is second to none.

T4M0 and ZA0 as well as all other stock ford tunes are junk. Best bet is the T4M2.

A couple of comments/questions:

  • The Moates stuff is modular and since it's new to me it's also confusing. Wouldn't I need a QH, Chip, Chip burner and software? With the TwEECer it was one item that I purchased, used for logging, and that contained my tune.
  • I plan to tune my 95R, but instead of modifying the OEM computer I will be using a T4M0 computer as the base. My plan was to start with the ZAO since it operates my car now just fine. However, I'd like to optimize it. I'm certainly open to looking at the T4M2 once I can see the differences between it and what I have as a base. Thoughts on this?

za0 is a junk tune same as all other stock tunes. It doesnt matter what tune you start with when properly dialed in you will end up with the exact same tune

Is there any benefit or draw backs using a chip after tuning the car with QH?

Isn't there an issue with the battery dying in the QH being permanently installed?

I’ve decided on the QH. Now I am evaluating if I want to go TunerPro RT or BE. Waiting on the QH to arrive.

I must admit that even after reviewing the links I still cannot grasp where the value of a paid CBAZA plays a role vs free. Is there a good read on this subject that you can reference?

Also, what’s the best way to visualize the differences between T4M2 and ZA0? I’m researching now if one of the softwares can show a comparison.

BE is pay for and the strats are pay for, each vehicle requires credits you pay for and you can at times get locked out the SW in some cases. The datalogging is not as good and it requires significantly more time to setup and get going.

best bet is to use tunerpro first since its free and it you dont like it you can pay $$ to downgrade to BE

T4M2 only works with TunerPro since its a custom OS. BE doesnt support custom operating systems only stock strategies (stock ford code only).

you can simply load the t4m2 in to tunerpro and click compare up top and load in a stock za0 tune to compare all the differences.

@SLOWBRA please keep us updated on your progress tuning your car. I intend to do the very same thing this coming year. Still have tons of reading to do though.

I’m looking forward to getting a basic tune and can gladly help as I get into it. Looks like the gentleman posting above has great experience as well.

I’ve tuned many of my cars over the years via SCT and have found it very easy to use. The 94-95 tuning research I’ve done thus far has been quite interesting. Thankfully I don’t radically modify any of my vehicles so a little tweak here and there should be plenty.

@decipha - I've spent the past few days looking at ZAO, J4J1 and T4M2 in TunerPro. The comparison capabilities (both within the functions and the difference tool) of this software are very nice.

There appears to be a number of "Item Not Defined" values when using the difference tool between the various bins. The questions I have are:
1) Is it possible to define all items within these bins using an open source XDF?
2) Can I simply load the ZAO onto the QH and install the QH onto the T4M0 computer to mimic the 95R ECU 100%?

If I used the QH on the ZZA0 I wouldn't be as concerned, but since I'm starting with a T4M0 I am not sure what to make of the "Item Not Defined" message.

The T4M2 has quite a bit going on. I don't feel comfortable using that until I truly have understood all there is to know about it. The links you have provided are helping get there.

I've read this page a number of times. I get you are trying to make it simple, but I'm not walking away from that page with the impression that I can jump in even with my experience. My guess is that it's likely because I have been trained with a baseline of using SCT and I've not clearly expressed what I want... or my take-away from that link isn't correct. Let me try to make it clear.

My car runs absolutely fine as is on a ZZAO computer and ZAO calibration. The car is fairly stock minus exhaust. I want to optimize the tune as I've always found there is room for improvement over oem calibrations and you have confirmed this as well. I will be using a T4M0 computer as the starting point.

I want to tackle the tuning as easily as possible. SCT makes this easy by providing a base tune that you can then build off of.

My assumption was the easiest starting point would be to load the ZAO calibration onto the T4M0 computer. However, when things are showing us as "not defined" I question what is actually going on. Your response that using a stock file requires more effort/time makes me question it even more.

I am not against using T4M2, but I really don't want to start a tune from scratch as the car runs OK now.

Is your suggestion, given what I have shared above, to fill copy values from the ZAO calibration that are required values to use T4M2? If so, will this provide a safe baseline starting point that I can dial in as I would a base tune that SCT provides?

If you want to map out and define those undefined parameters I have a disassembly write up that explains how to do it. Expect to spend about 5-7 years to map it all.

sct only gives you stock files they allow value files as well for basic changes

you can pull the stock injector data, maf data and sarchg out the za0 tune and off you go.

If your more comfy using the za0 and going from there then I would recommend doing that. It doesnt matter what you start from once its dialed in properly you will end up with the exact same tune so it makes absolutely no difference.
