Hey Nerds! Updating my laptop. I need a laptop that will run heavy video processing software and capabilities and do it well. My son suggested this below. It has to be a laptop because it needs to be mobile for my business. I need a dual monitor setup for home which I know is difficult with a laptop. How do I best accomplish this.

  • Windows 10 Pro 64
  • Intel® Core™ i7-10750H (2.6 GHz, up to 5 GHz, 12 MB L3 cache, 6 cores) + NVIDIA® GeForce® RTX 2070 Super™ (8 GB)
  • 32 GB DDR4-2933 SDRAM (2 x 16 GB)
  • 17.3" diagonal FHD 144 Hz IPS anti-glare WLED-backlit (1920 x 1080)
  • 1 TB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD
  • 4-cell, 70 Wh Li-ion polymer
  • HP Wide Vision HD Camera with integrated dual array digital microphone
  • Intel® Wi-Fi 6 AX 201 (2x2) and Bluetooth® 5 combo (Supporting Gigabit file transfer speeds)

^^X2. I have this setup with my work. One cable (laptop stays closed) connects to dual monitors. Unplug, take the laptop anywhere.

I have 2 monitors, and still even use the laptop screen as a 3rd. Its all one work surface (nothing mirrored). There is a single connection to the laptop (If I recall its USB-C) then a small outboard box that the monitors, keyboard, Ethernet, etc connects to, even the power supply. One cable, and your disconnected.

You can switch between them. I’ll have find what I use. For sure HDMI. I use all day and can toggle back and forth.

Need a hdmi out.

HDMI unless it's the new version stuff cables suck. Display port is far superior, HDMI maxes out fast with new res and refresh rate. Can't even support 1440 over 60hz on a standard connection.

I honestly don’t know if I have that. It’s a 2 year old Alienware 17”.

Probably has a mini-dp port (not a midget porn joke) looks like a tiny rectangle about the size of a USB micro but twice as tall. USB-C is the new high bandwidth output for most laptops. Doesn't really come into play until you start running over 1080 and trying to push wicked frame rates (144HZ+).

Can't imagine a 2070 super even in a laptop frame doesn't have at least one. That setup should be good for a lot.

Can I put that in my external displays though? I just use it on the external 32” so I cans see the PDF drawings my builders send me, so I can draw it in CAD on my laptop. I also just use the external display to show customers what I’ve done, or they can see the changes I make without them standing behind me.

Yes and no, you need an adaptor but I believe it can support multiple monitors on one USB-C port on new things. I think some really new mobile displays support straight USB like stand alone small gaming monitors for super nerds. Only speaking from looking into it a little I run all DP stuff unless I need a third or 4th monitor. Stupid 1080TI only has 2 DP doprts and 2 HDMI when I run the third monitor is nerfs my other 2 to 60hz due to g-sync scaling to the slowest connection.

Not needed for CAD (I draft all day myself in Autocad) since you're not going to notice an improvement in trying to push more than 60HZ. I will say after working at home on my gaming rig for awhile at 1440 on 3 32" displays going back to 3 1080 24" was sad lol.

I only run the laptop I have, because we need to show 3D shit to the customers. I need to upgrade first of the year to something with a tad more storage.
