I'm a proud veteran in that I was blessed to serve our country in the Navy. The carrier I was stationed on made two tours of duty to the Tonkin Gulf during the Vietnam War. I once bartered with a guy in the carrier's supply department for a Navy pilot's survival knife. Now years later, I can't find it. It meant a lot to me. Well, while browsing Google, I found a commemorative knife from Ka-Bar that I just had to have. Not identical, but it's something that represents my service in a positive way. My wife saw how much I wanted this knife and before I could buy it (plus a display case), she told me she really wanted to buy it for me for Christmas. The knife, sheath and case was just under $200.00. I'm looking forward to getting the knife, and will proudly display it in my home office.

Here's a photo of what my original knife/sheath looked like. The blade was 5".

And here's a photo of what I'm getting. This has a 7" blade so I can't use the original sheath with sharpening stone. I will, though, search for one that will hold my new knife.

Whatever you do, do not buy a KA-BAR on Amazon. I just wanted "one", and the next thing I know I bought 10 different models. The 2211 Big Brother is my favorite. Makes you want to quote Mick McDundee.

Why not buy on Amazon?

I was going to because my wife would have saved $41, but she wanted to buy direct from Ka-Bar, to make sure mine was the real deal. I did, though, buy the display case from Amazon (saved $33.).

I think he meant to say that Amazon makes it too easy to fuel his knife addiction.

You're probably right, Sid. Sometimes, you DO have to be careful on Amazon as there are counterfeit items sold there every day. That was the reason why my wife prefered to buy direct from Ka-Bar.

@mysticsvt, I looked at those stands carefully. They're pretty nice. I've seen other styles as well. Some that are meant to be wall mounted can display military medals/ribbons, patches, certifications, etc.
