Good afternoon everyone, I'm getting ready to be in the market for another GT500. This will be a long term purchase and the car will be used mainly for cruising around and going to shows/meets. My question is which one will be more valuable(collectable) over time? I'm pretty sure its the KR but wanted the community's input.

I agree the 2009 will likely remain strong for a couple of reasons. Limited production and the 05-09's were the best of the 5th gens. The 2013/14 Super Snake might hold up really good.

13/14 grabber blue IMO. I see the KRs and super snakes come up at auction and they do not seem to do very well.

The KR may be more collectible, but as soon as you price it someone will say they can get a 13/14 for that price or less.
Get it based on what you want and makes sense, not collectibility. You will see quickly how tone changes when you go to sell something

Got it, just like selling built or 03/04 cobra swapped 99/01 cobras lol, love reading peoples comments on those.

It's hard to say really, the KR is more rare but I don't see people paying big money for them. Maybe its too soon. The 13/14 GT500 is holding its value well as of now. Honestly, I wouldn't really look at the collectability part if you plan on enjoying the car. I would get whatever one you like better.

Like Dirks said get what you like and don’t worry about future value or collectibility. If that happens then it’s just a bonus. Cars are not investments. Buy stocks if you want long term investment return.

I bought a 500 mile 93 Cobra R in 1999 for 27K and knew it was a long range collectible. Had it for almost 2 years then sold it for 30K to a member here. He finally sold the 93R last year somewhere in the 60’s. Nice return but I made a hell of a lot more in my stock investments over the last almost 20 years plus owning a 95R, 2003 and 2004 Cobras, 2013 and 2014 GT500’s among others. Enjoy the hobby and do not worry so much about return on the non investment. It’s why they call it a hobby.

Both will be desirable in the long term. Both are a lot of fun on the track. I'd give the KR the nod due to being rarer, and in particular I like the black with black stripes.

The 13/14 FULLY LOADED with Glass Roof option will be the one that salivating money pimps will come outta the wood work with wallet open, ready to pay premium dollars. And in some cases, already are.

1. Grabber Blue Coupe
White, Silver and Verts will be on the lower end of the scale

If its just a garage decoration, than toss up

Ya, but if you look at what historically brings the money, it's the stripped down, no option cars. 93 Cobra is a good example. Nobody wants the leather cars, they want a cloth car with no sunroof. 87-93 Mustang GT with all the bells and whistles? Hell no, gimme a striped down coupe that nobody wanted, now guys are paying crazy money for them.

So true. I bought my new 93 Cobra at the end of the build year and all that was left in my states local inventory was a loaded Red 93 with sunroof and leather. I would have ordered a base 93 Cobra with the black cloth and no sunroof if the banks were not closed. Today that base car with the black cloth would bring more money than my loaded 93.

I think the 13-14 is more desirable (king of the factory S197's), but KR might be more "collectable". But to be special and collectable will need to be MINT low mileage, and stock. Other wise it will be lumped into the 07-09 over produced era, where around 30K were made over the 3 years. I've considered a KR, the time is right from a deprecation stand point, but if adding another S197, I would do a 13B302LS then a 13-14 500. My 2c

They’re probably the 2 Shelbys that you’ll see the most return in the future, with a slight edge to the KR. Rarity would be the edge. Can’t really go wrong with either but I’d pick the KR.

Pick your poison.

I see you've owned both a '09 & a '13.
Which one did you like driving better?

I don't buy cars as investments, but it seems to me the fewer examples that last through the ages, the more the car's worth. I would think there are fewer KR's built, but how many of those are garage queens that will stand the test of time may impact the final results. When you look at the production numbers, they are not terribly rare cars and not likely to produce that great of a return over other investments. I'd say buy the one that puts the bigger smile on your face. I'd have a hard time with that decision because I think Shelby did a great job in the styling department for the KR. On the other hand, the '14 is a much faster, more refined car.
