I flipped it and the noise came back. Took a few days though. And that’s why I can’t track it down. Anytime I touch something the noise doesn’t come back for a few days. It’s hit and miss

Ok so at least it’s narrowed down to that.

I’d pull the belt and check all the pulleys. Give them a spin and feel for wobble. Sorry, there’s a couple belt threads right now so I missed that you’d changed the idlers.

I’d still be looking at that belt. It very well may just be dry and need replacement.

Look for any shiny spots on the belt.

It’s not uncommon for this stuff to show up when it gets cold. If nothing else was changed and the noise just started, that’s likely what it is.

Weak tensioner causing loose belt, maybe?
That’s kind of what I’m thinking too. Are you sure your belt is proper size? There is indicators on the tensioner that line up when you have proper tension. Personally I would start with a new belt. And make sure all pulleys are seated properly. And all grooves are clean. If still having same issue, then I would suspect tensioner.

As long as you weren’t using a prybar or something you’ll be ok.

Did you get a shorter belt or? Regardless, I’d still bet $100 you just had a dry, squeaky belt.

I have to slide mine on a smooth idler with the tensioner fully loose but once it’s on the tensioner moves back into an acceptable range.

Been like that for years and thousands of miles.

I used the LMR chart. I have a 4lb lower with a 3 inch upper and a 3.2 inch alt pulley. I removed a motoblue 4 pulley kit and replaced with a UPR double bearing 4 pulley kit. The car also has a new tensioner pulley. The belt that was on the car for about two years and maybe 1k miles was a micro-v that was a 080797 (which is about 79.5 inches long). I installed a green fleet runner that is 080790. According to LMR this belt is also 79.5 inches long so I ordered it. Well this one is a good bit smaller for sure. I warmed the belt in the house overnight and worked it around a little to get those packaging “bends” out. But when I went to put it on it wouldn’t go over the pulley. I ended up getting it on a little at a time and releasing the tensioner so it would stretch a tad. Finally got it in place. Only drove the car once so I guess time will tell if the noise is gone or not

Either way I still don’t think it was a tension issue. It was just dry.

Sounds like you did check but those numbers on the belt can be off by about 3/4” from what they “should” be. Kindof weird. No rhyme or reason to how they do it from what I’ve seen
