How much did you guys say you paid for those paddle type LED's? Saw these on Griot's Garage.

Motion Activated LED Ceiling Light - Griot's Garage

I realize these have motion detect, but c'mon Griot's.
At that price point, you can get some serious lighting that would blow those out of the water. Also, I personally wouldn't want motion sensing in the garage because if you're under the car and they shut off, that would get annoying.

Ordered four of the 15,000 lumen paddle lights off amazon. These ran 30 dollars a piece, and I believe are the same ones that someone else here had picked up. The two forward most lights are partially wasted on the wall, but there's still quite a difference, especially in person. (Not recommended if you don't want to find minor paint swirls/imperfections in your paint)
The third photo is probably the best picture for showing the light change.

Replaced all the fluorescent T8 tubes in my shop with LED, ALL 72 OF THEM!!! Went with Eiko T8 direct-wire replacements to get rid of the ballasts. Single-ended power, 18w, 4000k, 2200 lumens.

Single-ended power simplifies the wiring a bit. My fixtures are 8ft long so I just replaced the middle 4 tombstones with non-shunted new ones and daisy chained them together. Then the 2 leads connect up to the original wiring in the fixtures. The other 4 tombstones in each fixture were left alone, just with the wiring cut off.

I forgot to ask. Are there any special considerations when installing these ultra-bright Corn Cob LED lights? One seller says to be sure the base will work in your fixture and to remove or bypass the ballast in your electric circuit before installation.

Bob, I totally removed my old 4 foot florescent fixtures and just replaced with a single screw in socket. No special fixture required. I think maybe the seller could be referring to removing the ballast if you were trying to install long tube florescent bulbs that resemble regular florescent bulbs in a existing fixture. Buy the way I have since replaced the ones in my wood shop with led, slightly different fixture. LED is the way to go. Just getting rid of the noise from florescent fixtures humming makes it worth it. Our main garage is only heated to 50 degrees and I haven't noticed any type of negative bulb performance like one would experience with florescent fixtures.

Bob I have one of those and love it. I already had a standard bulb fixture, it just screws right in. They probably sell multiple bulbs and just use the same text - ie some bathroom mirror fixtures are a small base/socket

I’d say it’s a combo of CYA and bad translation.

When laying out your lighting just make sure you’ve got one that the engine bay won’t be blocked out once the hood goes up. I added an 8’ led a neighbor gave me just in front of my car and rarely need a flashlight for anything in the engine now

I have that issue when the garage door is open as my car is always backed in.

Thanks for the clarification. I thought maybe it was a special socket. My paddle bulbs are working great, but it never hurts to have MORE light. I only have two sockets at the 3/4 point towards the rear. I never added sockets at the front end because of the garage door blocking them when they're open.
