I agree the RS6 Avant looks better, but something about the MB that has that sinister sleep look.
Packs a Tyson punch! You won't know what hit you!

yea the Benz is definitely a sinister looking ride and the interior looks top of its segment

I daily a C63s. Have owned it for 2 and a half years now, put 40,000 miles and several track days on it. It’s given me no issues at all and is an incredible all around car. The only downside is that it is more useless in snow than any Mustang that I’ve owned. Obviously AWD in the E would help out with that part

yea I figure the awd would help. If anything is that bad my wife has an XC90 and we may step her up to a full size suv at some point so that’s little worry. Really though MD has gotten so little snow in recent years anyway.

A friend of mine did this same thing recently. He was looking for and purchased a wagon E53 after test driving an E63 (2020).

The E63 was overly harsh in its ride on summer tires, so the dealer put winter tires on the 21s and drove it to his house for another test drive. The ride was still harsh and unforgiving and after comparing an E53 back to back he purchased the E53. The E53 he did buy has the hybrid motor assist (which the E63 does not) and so torque off the line is very impressive and it is a fast car overall. He is well familiar with quick cars. He bought a chip for the E53 but is less than impressed with what is involved in installing it - he may send it back.

If you want I can put you in touch with him directly. PM me if so.

that’s the one thing that has me a touch more interested in a 21 as all the reviews make it seem rude harshness has been resolved. If that’s the case I’d likely have to wait a while for some to hit the used market as I just can’t justify dropping msrp on a car I’ll be racking miles up on.

I've seen them from 12 to 17 depending on classes. with the m157 engine.

there are 2 engines from AMG i would want in a car. a m177/178 4.0L, or a m113k 5.5L kompressor motor

So if I’m looking at a 20/21 this should hopefully be a non issue

As I always say MB and BMW are nice as long as you got a warranty. Otherwise prepare your bank account if anything goes wrong

chances are if I go after something in this segment of cars I’ll get an extended warranty.

True, I'm not far from you and we haven't gotten much snow lately either but the C63s is on the level of "if there's a dusting on the ground, I can't get out of the driveway." The engagement of the clutch pack is pretty aggressive, that mixed with PS4's makes snow it's worst enemy.

If you're not dead set on a brand new one, look at CPO options. Benz CPO warranty is really good - I got it on my C63s and the GLS550 I just bought for my wife. You get the balance of factory warranty, an extra year/unlimited miles from CPO, then the option to add up to another 2 years of unlimited miles warranty for ~$3700. My C63s is a 2015 and it has Mercedes Benz warranty (not some 3rd party warranty) until the middle of next year, regardless of how many miles I put on it. Can't beat that.

that would be what I’d want to do. I just can’t see dropping 120k or more on a car when I can buy a CPO and I’m not taking that initial depreciation bath. Ultimately I’ll have to drive both but my worry about a 2020 is every review I see outlines a someone harsh ride, where as the same reviewers say the 21 nails that away perfectly so this may be something where I wait till some of them hit the used market. Maybe by then these crazy inflated used car prices will settle down.

how do you like the GLS550? How’s the space inside? We want something bigger for the wife vs her XC90 but I wonder if they are large enough or if we need to look full size like Yukon, expedition etc

It's a good size. Our kids are 6, 4, and 2 so we have two full size car seats and a booster. She was previously driving a long wheelbase Escalade but got tired of driving something that large. The GLS is the only vehicle we found that could comfortably fit all 3 car seats across the second row that wasn't Suburban/Yukon/Escalade. We went to dinner with a group of friends last week and fit 6 full size adults in it and everyone said they were comfortable.

We drove a 450, it was OK but really lacked power so we were looking between 550's and 63's. We didn't get chance to drive a 63 (although I hear they are a blast), a deal we couldn't pass up on this 550 popped up a few weeks ago in Ohio so I drove out and picked it up.

got it.

The w213 chassis is lightyears ahead of the w212. Better motor, hot V setup, 4matic+ trans. I have many customers that daily them with no issues both stock and modified. Just basic maint. If you had mentioned the w212 chassis with the m157 motor, i would have told you all the stuff i see on a daily basis to not get stuck in that rabbit hole and go for the w213 chassis.

In stock form the car is a legit rocketship. Drivetrain is pretty bulletproof too. Drivability is spot on. I would not opt for the upgraded race type seats and get the standard. They can get a bit uncomfortable after time. Launch control is insane as well.

This would be my go to car when i upgrade to a AMG finally. The first time driving it, it felt perfect (well to me).

And if it gets to feel slow, my tune brings it up to 773/778 with stock like drivability. Under 3 sec 0-60 and high 10's in the 1/4.

Let me know if you have other questions regarding the car.

Pat

What are you views on the C63? I have been considering that one for my next lease.
