You guys are forgetting the fact that EV's don't pay the gas tax. And as ev's keep getting more and more popular and the economy gets put through the wringer I'd expect at least state governments to dramatically increase the gas tax to cover the revenue lost from electric vehicles until they find a way to tax them or just get lazy/desperate and decide to tax all vehicles by the mile.
Once that's in place I still expect the gas taxes to remain and even increase more to become something more akin of a sin tax, where the tax is half the total cost or more, like cigarettes for example, with the goal of pushing everyone to electric.

Very true, but they will tax ev at some point too. About the time that we don't have much choice but ev...

Im looking to get into the gas industry this spring, mind you ive been working for this position for 2yrs now and its finally going to happen. Now this is mid stream which do no drilling, fracing ect. So they wont be impacted like allot of the other companies will see. Thry have a small outfit in Wexford out by pitt and knowing how big the industry is out near there, and pretty much all of Ohio, im curious as to how those areas will be affected.

do your research brah.

2 years ago, operators at mid stream locations had 1 maybe 2 locations per operator ( salt water disposals ) and life was great .. my buddy now has 11 by himself

pipeline operators.. I used to look over 32 locations , the same guy doing my old job ( a buddy of mine) has 65

MANY people went from loving theirs to hating them very much.. the oil field ain’t what it used to be.... just saying.. I’m in environmental for a reason

I'm pretty sure a lot of careers are on the line with the regulations put back into place by the new garbage administration.
Hopefully not, but probably so.

I doubt it. A lot of states are making up the loss of gas tax revenue via a registration surcharge for EVs. Can't escape the tax man.

I recall awhile back NY tried to do a mileage based tax rather than gas tax (while not getting rid of the actual gas tax mind you.) People were pissed and they withdrew it. Now we might see it come back.

What about about everyone else tho?

Buckle down and be prepared. I passed on a bunch of non necessary items this past year. I really wanted to and could have bought a new GT350. I believed this was going to happen and passed. I passed on an 03 MG Cobra for the same reason. I dumped a ton of money in retirement, stocks, and savings. I put more money away this past year than what I made when I bought my house.

Shit is gonna be ****ed, hope you made plans/planned ahead.

In NY I wouldn't be surprised. They're perpetually broke. They even tried to tax cow farts under the guise of climate change to plug their massive deficit. And yet when you see that "Welcome to NY: Toll Booths 1 mile" sign, you know the roads are going to turn to garbage.

Ca is going the same way, they have already reported massive fund shorts due to aka covid, less paying buying gas meaning less gas tax.

NJ already passed one gas tax increase last month and already have plans to increase it again this year. That’ll be ontop of the OPEC ****ing we receive shortly.

electric is too far from being "normal" . Most of them can't go more than 250 to 300 miles, which is a huge down fall. There are so many gassers on the road, even from 40 years ago. We are a LONG ways away from fully electric, which is a good thing.

It has me worried. I've considered selling off my cobra. I rarely drive it and what future does it have if we are going to be bombarded by regulations and taxes.

maybe I'll pick up organic knitting as a hobby instead.

I drive to Colorado for work, and to my Sisters. It's 500.4 miles from my driveway to hers one way, 8 hours (even after going into mountain time) at over 80mph with a top off before leaving town and a splash and dash in Colby or Oakley depending on how bad the wind is. Miss the Escape as its 1000-1500 miles of driving each trip. I've put more miles on the mustang since October than I have in 4 years.
Normal wind in Kansas is 15-20mph, but 50+ has happened several times. 14mpg in a v6 escape wasn't fun. Got 18 in the mustang at Christmas on the way out with a NW head wind. But it was a dead calm day after Xmas and I got almost 29mpg "28.7" (91, running off the waste gate with 3.31s at 85) best ever mpg... usually 24-25 with wind.
My brother in law's father has a Tesla P90D
(They live here in Wichita as well) they cannot do over 70mph with our "normal" winds to make it to Colby for an hour supercharge to make the remaining 2/5s of the trip. When its really windy they have to stop in Hays and Limon, and an hour charge at each. So now they usually take his wife's Lexus suv.
Western Kansas, especially the NW is some of the most sparsely populatuated places in the nation. Not much to do when you wait.
The kansas turnpike was supposed to only have fees the first decade, when it was made in the late 60s. It still has fees, and they keep going up.
We also have the most expensive electric west of the Mississippi (excluding California.)

I agree on researching first. Ive done allot of it on this place as I have to life long friends in this company. This company does no fracking or drilling whatsoever. Its called Energy Transfer Partners. They are involved with them yes, but they are more invloved with other ventures. They own Sunoco, and they are fortune 500. I wouldn't be a field worker, I will be a warehouse/Inventory Coordinator. Is there a risk, absolutely but at what job isnt there a risk? Heck right now I deal with Interior wall protection, my job has been in jeopardy since the start of tye Chinese Flu.

Someone should push these cocksuckers hard for tax credits for Ethanol conversions, and for buying factory flex fuel cars/trucks.

Electric trucks are supposedly even worse. An OTR trucker would have to stop more than they could drive.
