Ha. That's definitely what I was thinking during my original post.

Thanks for the answer. Makes sense. Well the answer make sense. The whole ref thing is a freaking circus. I've always said I wish CA would just float away like Madagascar. Heck they wanted to succeed for a while there. Most of the of people in the state are great. Unfortunately the elite and the government spoil it for the rest of them.

I need to buy property just east of the san Andres fault line so when the big one hits most of the libs will break off and float away joining Hawaii leaving me with ocean front property. The Bay Area and LA make up the bulk of the populous and there politics ruin it for everyone. It’s already infected other states, or portions of states. Austin and Denver for example. There’s definitely a lot of good people here and we’re not all bad.

He was but there's a big crackdown on any modified car because of the "takeovers" and influx of idiots ruining it for the rest of us.

Sold my car before I got handed one lol bunch of folks I know got reffed. If your car isn't heavily modded should be relatively easy to pass just gotta make your tune is factory and your upper and lower pulley is stock since they actually measure them.

Sounds like everybody in here needs to move out of CA, but if you vote blue you can stay there and reap what you've sown

I’ve been reffed. The car has to be completely stock, and if it isn’t, you need to have CARB EO numbers for everything that isn’t. You can NOT have a a/f gauge and/or a aftermarket boost gauge. The state ref goes through a thorough test - visual & monitor check. Don’t waste your time and make sure all monitors are ready before you head there. EVAP does not have to be ready.

In regards to why, it’s not just happening randomly. Back in the day, you could pass smog in CA without every monitor ready. If your car has passed in the past without a monitor ready, they have records of that and are flagging these cars after a new rule in 2018.

Did they get on you for gauges? I can’t see how monitoring equipment can be considered a modification that modifies emissions.

Interesting. So your car is registered in Montana? have you been pulled over with Montana plates?
No but I've given this some serious thought. I don't have smog in the county i live in so i don't bother but if i got pulled over by the wrong cop you never know what they could do

The land of commies and socialists!
That's exactly what's happening. Also the machines received updates and can detect when a car is not on a factory tune and automatically stop the test and get sent to a Ref regardless if all emission monitors are still in place.

Here is proof smogs are verifying CVN's

That's some good info on what's been going on and fully explains what we've been seeing over he last few years.

I've also been to the state ref before after getting flagged at a regular smog shop. Before going to the ref I took out my afr and boost gauges out. Didn't want to have them get on me for saying the boost line was "tampered" with so took it out. Went in the first time with the stock h pipe, smaller blower pulley (eaton is ported), CAI with oe number, and took it with the same tune I've had for years and has passed smog before no problem. He failed me for the pulley and tune. Took care of the pulley and put the stock tune back on since I had it on the SCT tuner and had to email them pictures for proof of corrections before they give you another appointment. Ended up passing it the second time but it was a pain!
