How much did the techs that were fed grease you to have the 30s 60s 90s preassigned to them?

Asking for a former Lexus tech.
3 of our techs are sneaky with that stuff. They will wait for one of us to step away from our computer then the tech will run over to it and look at the appointment schedule and see what work is coming in. Say a 90k was coming in at 1pm. The tech would stroll by the drive at around 1pm and see if that car is there and then ask to be assigned to it.

Why do I always leave the dealership with more problems than I arrived with? Took my Mazda in for an air bag recall. While in there I asked them to fix a slow leak in 1 tire. Made the appointment 1 week in advance. I show up and no one ordered the recall parts, they broke my TPMS sensor, and the tire still leaked. Went back the following week to get everything sorted out. Thankfully they didn't even try to charge me anything for this cluster****.

shit happens. At Nissan all airbags had to be ordered by vin number. At Honda we stock them for all models.

Your case sounds pretty clear cut that someone messed something up, but most of the time someone blames the shop for breaking something else it isn't the shop that did it, it's just a car that is falling apart. The last thing the shop wants is someone coming back claiming we broke something. Also, sometimes when you fix one thing it can cause another thing to go, especially when you are dealing with pressurized systems. BMWs have a tendency to blow seals that when fixed will just cause the leak to blow at another seal. I want to say that happens mostly with the gasket to the water cooled alternators.

The complex things they do the vehicles sometimes.

I bet those water cooled alt are a little pricey and more involved to replace.

Yeah, the BMW ones are around a grand if I remember right, and the Porsche Cayenne alternators are about $1800 from what I recall. They are more involved than usual but it is just that seal that can make it a real pain the ass.

We have recently discovered a new issue on 2016+ Honda pilots that if you do a coolant flush then a few weeks later you will need a heater core lol. We don’t know why but the start clogging after we do the flush.

What are you guys using for the flush? We have done countless coolant flushes on these and haven't seen this issue yet.

On a side note I'm a current honda and previous ford advisor. Thought many times about making this exact thread lol.

Standard coolant. All the advisors were thinking maybe the techs are adding some 3rd party additive that’s causing it but they are not.

EDIT: Also your in NC? How cold can it get down there? We only get this complaint In the winter cause the customer complains about an intermittent heat issue.

Typically coldest is going to be 20s sometimes in the teens. I know we have done some heater core flushes using CLR with good success for intermittent heat issues but haven't seen this come up on the 16+ pilots yet. We are too busy replacing fuel injectors every day lmao

I had a really great relationship with my techs, we where all really good together. I rotated around the shop and the guys where always good with it. if I missed someone or they had a bunch of upsells and didnt need it they let me know. ill miss my boys but thats about it.

Man our pay plan just changed at the start of the year, I don't get paid on warranty parts anymore just labor. So all those injectors, axle recalls, accord headlights etc all mean next to nothing for me now.

Electronic dispatching here. The techs don't get a say what they pull next. They get their previous recs pre assigned to them and we have a shop foreman that keeps an eye on what is in the queue and may assign a particular tech based on current workload or any number of other reasons. Its more fair for the techs but yeah if I could I would pick 3 or 4 guys to send most of my big jobs too.

Thankfully most of our guys are pretty good and I trust them. There are a few I want a 2nd opinion on every diag they give me or I know ill be telling the customer the job is gonna take longer when they pull it lol

Ooof. Another reason to hate this business lol. If They changed my plan to where I wasn’t benefiting from the the recalls I’d honestly leave lol. Do you guys do a lot of extended warranty?
