Lots of those 3rd party warranty’s have fine print not up front about what’s covered vs what they consider wear items as well as what type of warranty placement it will be ie new vs used or factory vs aftermarket part. And then they’ have different tiers. The higher $$& the more it covers. Depending on on cost it might be better to set aside the funds for a new vehicle. I had a 3rd warranty when I bought a Jeep out of factory warranty. It was through the dealership but not Jeep. I had a platinum tier for another 3 years. Never filed a claim.

Zurich is a good one. Go with a major company for these because I have dealt with so many of them, and as a shop, I have been scammed by more than a few. The shitty ones use a lot of the same names or variations on the name and they will leave you high and dry. Zurich is Farmers Insurance so they will not screw anyone out of money or a repair.

My main suggestion would be to set that money aside for future repairs instead of investing in a warranty, don't forget they are banking on you not needing it and especially on them never paying back out what you paid in. That being said I've seen plenty of instances where it's really helped people out big time.

If you decide to get one whatever you do, STAY AWAY FROM CARSHIELD/AMERICAN AUTO SHIELD. They are easily the worst extended warranty out there and its borderline scam. I say this as a service advisor who deals with extended warranties on a daily basis.

11-year old Hyundai approaching 100k miles.....the car is worth less than a major repair would cost. As others have noted, that money would be better placed into a savings account for minor repairs and just buy another disposable car when a major repair comes up.

I have to agree with your logic, BP. And some of the expected higher mileage repairs likely won't be covered if they're "normal wear" items.

55-65% of all warranties are never used. it's a SCAM.
if you are REALLY worried about repairs, buy another reliable car with 30k miles.
It’s a scam until you need it. Yes, a lot of people buy warranties and never end up using it. On the flip side, I have customers where their warranty had paid for itself 3x over and say it’s the best decision they made. I personally buy ext warranty on all my vehicles and encourage others to do the same.

That age/mileage it would be best to save the money for a newer vehicle. However, if you are going through with it, stay away from Carshield as they are horrible. I have worked with Zurich and they are easy to work with as is AUL, and Fidelity.
