I'm chatting with a guy selling a 2017, engine went out, Ford replaced it with a Gen2. Seller indicates it was deemed a "lemon" at the time before and he bought it back after the Gen2 engine was installed. Car runs fine. Seller trying to sell it for 45k. To me, being that I can't afford a 2019 which would be 55-60k, I would be able to get an older version ('17) but with the Gen2 engine which supposed to be slightly tuned by Ford for increased reliability.

What other things should I consider? Is 45k high or low? Does buying a previous "Lemon" something I need to worry about even though the new engine is brand new?

Thanks for any thoughts.

Id get the vin and see if @13COBRA would be willing to run a Oasis report on the car. He may also be able to help you find a gt350 too if this one does not work out.

Got your PM, and I'll wait for the VIN.

Being a Lemon Law car isn't a super awesome thing...

It's on the title. It's not a salvaged title per say, but a lot of lending institutions will not lend on them.

As far as value goes, you didn't mention how many miles are on it, so it's hard to say. I'd guess for $45k it has 20-25k miles.

I would only buy it if an extended premium warranty is available. Otherwise you could be going down a path that isn't favorable for you.

If that premium warranty isn't available, I'd walk away for a diff car with less miles, better history at the same price.

I'm pretty certain buy backs only come with a 1 year warranty and are ineligible for Ford Premium Care.

Ford's Reacquired Vehicles come with the balance of the factory warranty OR a 12 month, 12,000 bumper-to-bumper, and are ineligible for a PremiumCare service contract.

For the price, there are CLEAN titled ones in that ballpark. I'm not against buying/selling/trading for RAV's, but only at a 15-20% cost savings.

That would be a terribly stupid idea bro! That car will have it on the title and wont be worth dick when u try to sell it. Steer clear of that like the plaque!
