Looking for an exterior/outdoor router for my backyard for around the pool and such. About 3,000 square feet or so.

What's out there?

You will absolutely want to run a wire to the area you want to cover then ad an access point.

I’m partial to the Asus stuff myself. Just General internet perusal? Any of the WiFI6 capable routers would probably give you more than enough coverage. Is this going inside a pool house, main home, etc.?

It'll be outside, probably attached to the deck. I'd like to get one that's ok with being in the elements, so I don't have to worry about taking it down for the winter or anything.

I’d honestly suggest upgrading to latest and greatest that you can mount and outdoor extender antenna up to, unless the one you have now is capable and you’re happy with it. We have 11 buildings over about ~80 acres and each building has its own outdoor antenna, creates a pretty good coverage area. Ours is dual band but only AC, no idea if there are good consumer grade AX units out yet.

Alright. What's the best extender to snag?

Something like the WavLink AC1200. The POE makes it easier. Tried to attach the Amazon link, guess I can’t?

Is your current router not cutting it? My router in my house that comes with the Viasat internet service easily covers 40k square feet of my yard.

So with that, will I still run Cat7 to it? Or just 12V power and then it will pick up on the WiFi signal and extend it out further?

It covers about 25% behind my house. Doesn't reach the far side of the pool, fire pit area, or playground. Need another 200ft of reach or so.

Check out the Eero products. Router with extender pods.

My son's room upstairs is getting very strong signal and when plugging the T10 cable for m extender to computer
in the back his speeds are near 1Gb. My daughter just using the signal is getting 440Mb up and down.

OK Bozos, stop clowning around.

I have a Nest Wifi Mesh system, covers my house and outside as well.

I set one up at my job too, covers about 4500 sq feet and part outside the building too. Only use login for everything, no need to have multiple different one's.

I used to have an Asus RT model, was great and strong but would have dead spots. The Nest covered that up. The pointers also have a built in Google assistant if you're into the whole smart home.

Well this is mildly depressing. Ours is lucky to pull 10Mb download sitting in our living room.

I wish I had a business to make me feel less depressed each billing cycle

On a bit of a bragging trip here. My son, 12 yo taught himself trigonometry shortly after covid started. Then he learned calculus but not sure how deep. But super cool he learned 3D modeling for his VR games. I think he uses Unity, Blender and C sharp?

I’ll leave all the learning stuff to my wifes genes. I’m not stupid but she’s very intelligent.

What do you pay for internet?

Best Outdoor Wi-Fi Extender For Long Range (in 2021)

Thought you were going to asking about border routers.
I personally prefer access points over extenders. But an access point requires a wire for a start. Extenders reduce the bandwidth. They work and are very convenient but not as fast as a good hard wired access point.

Difference Between Access Point and Extender | Difference Between

You will absolutely want to run a wire to the area you want to cover then ad an access point.

I agree. That would work well. CAT-7 rated for outdoor, underground and direct burial. In conduit would be even better.
