Can someone identify this painting for me?

I'm watching a documentary with a bunch of Rembrandts and other paintings and I know this is a famous painting, but I have no idea who the painter is or what the name of the painting is. I'm not a paint connoisseur and can only afford a poster version, but I am curious which one this is, which is probably very obvious to someone who knows. Thanks.

If you want to see some badass paintings, look at some of Caravaggio's work.

He definitely has a style of carnage I guess you could say. The painter whose name I can't pronounce also did The Goldfinch in Delft around the same time as Vermeer. That's why I read in the book named 'The Goldfinch' they talk about the painting and the story behind what happens to it in the book, makes more sense now.

Nevermind, I figured it out.

Girl With A Pearl Earring. Johannes Vermeer. 1665
LOL. I'm glad you connected it to the movie because when I saw it, I'm like "I know I've seen that paint before". Yep, from the movie.

That particular painting is considered a masterpiece because of the difficult shading involved. Good eye.

Vermeer actually painted a lot of his subjects with pearl necklaces and pearls since the area of Delft was a trading area during the Dutch golden age and they received many items imported/exported. So pearls would be an item of wealth, and to paint it on a common citizen was unique compared to traditional religious or portrait type scenes. Also the head wear is not necessarily something a Dutch girl would wear, but also alludes to Vermeer perhaps showing off the goods from around the world on his subjects.

I don't usually give two f*cks about art and find their outrageous price insane and the people involved in the art world are usually pretentious jerk offs, but I really like this piece since it is timeless and it could almost be something painted in today's world as she doesn't look like someone from the 17th century IMO. I already found a place that will paint a reproduction for me so I can hang it up in my living room.

The only other pieces i've paid for was the limited edition runs by that artist who does runs of classic and modern Mustangs and other cars. I bought his Fox Body sketch and had it framed. It depicts an OEM 1988 or so Mustang GT with the 'lovely' turbine wheels.
