Well I was finally offered to stake Ethereum on Coinbase a few days ago after being on a waiting list for a while. I just staked the maximum of 40 ETH @ 6% APR. I wanted to stake more but that is the limit they are offering at this point. It is locked up now till the Ethereum 2 upgrade is completed or they offer trading. I have never moved it anyways so it does not matter to me. At least now it will grow a bit. I am of course still mining Ethereum. Here in Michigan it is still cold which is perfect for mining. Not looking forward to the warm months. I'll be tempted to shutoff the rigs but if Ethereum's price goes nuts I am not sure.

I could have run my own ETH validators and earned more but then you have to maintain them and there is a risk that your ETH funds could be slashed if the validator was not maintained and updated properly. I might send some ETH to Blockfi to stake there as well. Guarda offers 7.23%. Not sure if they can be trusted. The web site looks professional. I'll have to read up on them.

40 ETH...wish I was on your level..NICE! I'm still waiting for my invite...soon I hope! Do you have to keep your rig cool in the summer? If not could you vent the room to the outside with window fans?

Yeah thanks it's peanuts compared to Vitalik with his 325,000 ETH lol!

I am really impressed with the staking interface. I logged back in about 45 - 60 minutes after staking and your ETH and ETH 2 balances are shown side by side in dollars. There is also a rewards ticker that is showing your rewards in dollar terms as it is growing. Kind of like a stopwatch. It was already over $6. And that will grow faster over time as the ETH being staked is compounded. And if the price of Ethereum goes to $10k or more it will become more dramatic.

The issue with the rigs in the summer is it gets hot in the house. We have a good central AC unit that can cool the house well even with the rigs running fulltime. But my power usage then goes to 13,500 watts total so I will have a really high electrical bill. Probably still profitable but it bothers me heating and cooling the house at the same time. Most days we can get by opening windows and doors with storm doors. That helps a lot. And I have an extractor fan in the basement right above two rigs to suck the warm air outside. There is a fresh air vent on the other side of the basement to make up for the loss in air.

Michigan will occasionally have a 2 week period of hot weather in the 90s or maybe even close to 100. I think on those weeks I am going to shut the rigs down. And then once it becomes more manageable start mining again.

I have a business with two partners that's also mining Ethereum from two office locations. We are not paying for the electrical but only have 18 GPUs in circulation. But it is good for about $2000 per month.

The good news your heating bill in the winter offsets your AC bill in the summer to a degree anyhow.

I've witnessed a lot of people making $$$ from cryptocurrency but I am apprehensive about joining the party. I'm not sure I "get" it yet.

I’ve already made my money back from buying those amplifiers with crypto profits. Get on Youtube and watch as many videos on crypto especially the one I posted earlier. IMO Eth is a sure bet that is following in Bitcoins path and rumored to surpass it. Honestly the only wrong thing to do is to not invest.

I just saw Eth broke BTC's peak from the 2017 run. In market cap terms, truly impressive.

Man it would have been nice to get into the mining at an early stage. I really wish I would have done real research researching this whole thing back in 2017 when it peaked and then dropped like a rock. I just assumed it was a fad and ignored it for the last 3.5 years. Could have done things way differently if I had done my research earlier.

Now that we know it’s not are you? Crypto is still in its infancy, you’ve missed little.
If or when it drops hard I’ll throw everything I can afford into it.

I was more referring to the mining aspect than anything. I'm still glad I'm in now vs waiting but the gains had we gotten in around 2018.

I did the same thing back then too. I made some money off it back then but thought it was done for when it dropped off. I should have bought as much as I could have when it dropped.

I Staked half my ETH yesterday with Kraken. I was about to do all of it then thought I would like to take some profits and rebuy lower if we get to $10k before ETH2.

Tell me about it! I still remember in 2009/2010 one of my business partners suggested I mine Bitcoin with my computer equipment. I said thanks but no thanks that's a waste of time. Well back then the difficulty and hash rate was so low that you could mine 50 BTC per day on one laptop! Of course this only lasted a short while and the payouts decreased. But I am pretty sure I could have mined at least 10,000-20,000 BTC back then if I had dedicated proper equipment for the task.

So far I have made out ok but nothing like the really early adopters who understood the technology and it's potential and had diamond hands.

I haven't got my invitation to stake yet even though I signed up for it.
When did you get on the list? I had to wait a while. Check your emails. I was also getting frustrated and contemplated sending it to Blockfi. I probably will because they did not allow me to stake the full balance. I also have some ETH on Binance. They don't allow staking yet and I am holding it for trading purposes / cashing out. This year I have to take profits because I traded on Binance and will be required to pay taxes.

Sorry I have to correct this. The ETH staked is not compounded according to Coinbase. I guess the rewards will be deposited into a separate wallet so the amount of ETH staked never increases. I also just logged on and my staking reward now sits at only $15.21. I have no idea why it initially jumped so fast to $6 and then slowed down. I am going to try Blockfi or Guarda to compare the yields.

I only got signed up for it like 2 weeks ago once I was able to get my Coinbase account recovered.

Don't search for cryptocurrency. Research blockchain and the you will understand the power of this. It is pretty revolutionary... crypto is just what makes it work.
