A few days ago a B-J auction had one that went across at ~$42K and sold.

He said it had factory covers still on the seats so I assume a low mileage car. Anybody see it? I am just curious as to the mileage and story? He sent me a phone picture which showed little.

Looks like he was expecting big bucks for that car. He should have just cut it loose on BaT. Probably would have made out better.

SPEC,
You have 45 days to purchase another vehicle with the proceeds from the sale. Keep it for a while and sell it. So long as you don't make a profit on THAT car your tax commitment is over.

Well if money was the only goal, I would have never bought any of them, and had the funds in the "market". At the same time, I would daily something HORRIBLE like a prius.

You cant drive and enjoy numbers on a page.

Agreed. I love my stable and enjoy them whenever I can. I hope they are valuable in the future, but I’m not going to stare at them during ownership with that future prospect driving my decisions.

I am going to the Amelia Island Concours d'Elrgance in 13 days. I am meeting four guys for the weekend.

I am looking at a 1969 Mustang Boss 302 in a private sale (owner died, widow is selling). The auctions are mostly closed (online only), and I am not paying a 10% commission, anyway. I've always wanted an old Boss but never found the right one.

I am also checking on a 1972 Porsche 911 that has been in a restoration for 20 months. No hurry, and I am even on his progress (pay at completions and no money "up front").

I agree as I never think of a car or bike as an "investment". It's a luxury item used for fun. My main money is in brokerage accounts with some cash in the bank (earning 0.05% interest).

I buy cars, motorcycles and firearms to enjoy them. However, it is also nice to know that they appreciate. I certainly don’t purchase vehicles that depreciate at a rapid rate. My daily drivers have been and always will be older/clean vehicles that I meticulously maintain.

No offense to the 60k winner of the 95r, I’m not paying 50% more than any other 95r sold. There are plenty of other ways to get around paying the capital gains tax’s rather than over investing in something else.

I know he ended up with a very nice car and one day I truly believe it will be worth what he paid and much more... At the end of the day, cash is king. I’ll keep my cash.

I agree.

BTW, did anyone remember that the $42K B-J 95R (2500 miles) had A/C installed? It also had all the paperwork. I say worth the $42K.

I had (long ago) mentioned that I got in a bidding for a local new 95R. I went to MSRP, and the other guy bid another $1K. It was a good call for me not to bid higher. I learned later that this guy installed A/C. I doubt it is the same car. I thought he was nuts at the time.

[26 Years later] Yea, I know that is not stock, but it sure is comfortable. I am sure that anyone could put it back to stock if they wanted to.
