I am going with the 10mm chaines on my motor,L&M sell the FORD GT kit for I think $650,and the valve covers are $700.I just got my JDM Cams yesterday.

That seems rich for the valve covers. I want to say that mine were 300 with fresh powder coat off of ebay.

Yeah I found a set of 03 cobra valve covers on Facebook for $250. But they definitely needed to be powder coated.

Well it's been a long two days but the engine is out and on the pallet and pretty much ready to ship out Tuesday to JDM. This was my first time pulling a GT500 engine, and I will say it was a little bit of a pain in the ass lol, especially with all the stupid ass track pack coolers. but I should have the engine back late August. I need to talk with Lund about tuning next.

Interesting that you're going to JDM for the build, but not for the tuning ??
I've been using Lund for awhile now, and I trust Lund with tuning the car correctly. I have no doubt Jim could tune the setup to run awesome, but I'm already with Lund. The biggest question I get from others is why I didn't use L&M to build it.
Wow, man congrats!!
Thanks man, I'm really excited to have JDM build it. I've always wanted to have a built engine GT500.
I wondered that as well
I have faith in Lund racing. Plus I use a Lund nGauge and that makes datalogging easy.

That depends who u bought it from and if its locked to Lund. Lund can unlock it for $100. Otherwise anyone can tune an unlocked one.

One thing about L&M. I called to see how long a build would take. Planned on upgrading my motor and he told me he usually prides himself on completing a motor in a 5-6 week turn around but says now he cant make that promise cause he has motors he cant finish sitting there since October of 2020!

I would have Lund tune it as well.

Correct, but I still have a SCT X3 if I wanted to have someone else tune it.

Lund unlocked my nGauge for free. But I was also already tuned by them when I had the SCT.

JDM said it will be about a 2 month turn around for the engine, seemed reasonable to me. And as long as I have it back by September I'm happy. It's already 105 in AZ so I was going to be parking the car anyway.

Did he say if that was because he has too much work, or is he having problems getting parts?

Are you going to have L&M build your engine? I honestly didn't even bother calling them after I spoke with Jim.
No, I've had a built engine in the car for 8 years now. I'm just curious if it was backlog or parts availability.

Oh right on, I'm assuming everything's been holding up good. How much power is your GT500 making?

Yes in Tucson but only two miles off I-10. It takes me about 1 hr, 45 min to Sky Harbor, so about the same time to you. I totally understand about the budget, but if you can swing a half day or so to take a drive, you're more than welcome.

I wanted to keep my car looking as original as possible from the exterior and the interior is a tribute to the 1967-68 GT500. If you look under the skin though, it's far from original. I have come up with tons of ideas and incorporated most. If you can come down to visit, I guarantee you that I can show you a minimum of two dozen mods (performance and cosmetic) that you've never seen before. I think the highlight of all of these would be my methanol system (hardware configuration and tune). I developed a way for my progressive system to "communicate" with the stock PCM and with the tune file changes, I can literally command an AFR when using methanol that is independent of the commanded AFR when it's not being used. Every pro tuner will tell you this is impossible with the stock PCM. I can explain in detail how I accomplished this without divulging the "nuts and bolts" if you are interested. Bottom line: My system utilizes 100 percent of what methanol injection offers with NONE of the drawbacks of e85. A close second would be my electronically switchable front / rear intercooler setup.

To keep this brief, have you ever seen anyone install gauges in a trunk? Now you have:

Plenty for now! And if that's not enough to make it worth your while, parked next to my GT500 is an HSV R8 Maloo. Ever seen one in person???

I'm interested in your tuning tweaks. What size nozzles are you running again?

I think you should be able to change out the timing components any long weekend without a complete tear down. Not sure you'd be able to degree the cams, but that's for the last bit of power anyway.

I really appreciate you adding to the thread, it's always great hearing from other happy JDM customers. I don't plan on doing the 10mm chains, I definitely agree they're the better option but unfortunately with the budget I'm working with I can't go crazy over. My current fuel system is Fore fuel rails, ID1300 injectors, 20 volt BAP and a Canton fuel filter. I'm currently on E85. But I'll probably switch back to pump gas during the break in period. Lund racing will be doing the tuning, especially since I have a nGauge. It sucks I have to ship my engine across the country but I don't trust anyone else to build it. With my engine only having 12k on it I hope the rebuild goes smooth. Hopefully June 2 or 3rd the engine will be on its way.

Just get rid of that stupid aluminum oil cooler and do a remote filter setup. There are better coolers out there anyway that don't use engine coolant to cool oil.

Watch that metal heater hose bracket thing on the back of the engine when putting it in. Took me forever to realize that's what was causing the binding when lifting it into the car. I just cut it off and used rubber hoses.

Had my engine built by MPR last year. He said I got the last set of main bearings in the world at the time. Supply issues.
Don't forget Accufab builds engines also, I don't know how quick or expensive they are though.

My car has the track pack, So it has the air to air oil cooler. At this time I have no interest in deleting the coolers, I wanted to do the rods and pistons so I can rev the car to 7k and not worry about snapping a rod. I feel I made right choice going with JDM, and they already have all my engine parts, bearings and gaskets.
