Never found the appeal to it or the supras.

Pretty much, though I think the Supra appeal was the engine and how near bulletproof it seemed in the mid 00's and how it would demolish damn near anything on the freeways when modded nicely. I never got the Rxx fanboy hype around those cars, they have mad potential for sure but they always seemed meh to me.

A friend of my wife has that exact color and spec car sitting in his garage at home next to a UGR lambo lol. Thing is a beauty.

When you see them in person the presence they bring is a lot stronger. I saw one driving around base back in 2014 in Okinawa and even from 400 yards away it stood out from everything else around. I've seen a handful of R33s and R34s out here in Washington as well and they're definitely head turners, but I also agree that in the grand scheme they are more so just an average sports car like a Shelby or Corvette. They do have a legit pedigree and a rich history in racing though and I suspect values in the US and elsewhere will continue to rise over the years just like every previous Skyline has.

As far as performance goes, I've been in some beastly RB26 powered cars and they are glorious to listen to when making 600-700hp.

These cars are the Terminator for the import crowd. Overpriced mediocre car that can be fast with enough money. Not hard to see the draw considering they are a lot more rare here than a terminator is.
See, that’s the allure. The fact they were never technically legal in the US and therefore rare gives them a cult like god status when they were pretty mediocre overall. They were the 4th Gen Fbody and Sn95 of Japan and most were left to rot until they started to get bought up for eventual deportation to the states.

The difference with the Terminator is you could import it to Japan if you wanted. Grey Market laws prevented the opposite in the states thanks to politicians being pressured by German manufacturers years ago as they claimed they were losing sales to Grey Market vehicles.

I actually prefer the R33 and always have for some reason. This is my dream R33. I cannot even imagine the cost of this build.

I've always liked them but I think the money they bring is insane. Not that I could afford it but if I could spend 250k on something it wouldn't be anything coming out nissan. I think it has more to do with the fact we couldn't get them here combined with video games and movies (f&f franchise) that has elevated that car to the status it is at in america. I know there was a guy who had an R32 back when I was in high school (ended up getting taken away as it was not legally imported, don't remember the whole story), but anyways he was a douche bag but every high schooler in town wanted to be him and drive a skyline.

it won’t be 300k but I guarantee when they are legal it’ll be 100k easy to get one

It's already over $250k, + bid fees...so closer to 300 than 200 lol.

But nah, the only R34 GTR Spec V cars that'll be $100k will be super high mileage cars that are rusty. Before they're even eligible to be transported here for legal sale, they're being sold by exporters for well over that :(

Imported it last summer during Covid….. how difficult is it to import? Seems like a money maker idea.

It would be if you have a connection in Japan to buy directly from the auctions and are willing to deal with stacks of paperwork. Importers like Japanese Classics out of Richmond VA buy directly from auction and import by the boatload, same with a lot of importers out on the west coast. It wouldn't be beneficial to buy up cars from Japanese dealers and export them.

The only reason this midnight purple car got in early is specifically due to the color, the rare color allows importation under the show & display law.

The entire JDM market has become exceedingly expensive, when R32 GT-R's were first legalized, you could pick up a clean stock example for low 20's. Now they're low 40's easily. The unloved "fat" R33 generation, 6 months before they became legal in the US jumped from an average of mid 20's to an average of mid 30's, and now bring 40-60 consistently. R34's are always **** off expensive.

I will say when I was in Japan in late 2018, it was uncommon to see ratty GT-R's owned by kids at any of the meets, especially R34's. All of the R34 GT-R's I saw were spotless and owned by older gentlemen The GT-R's weren't cheap when new. The common spec ones you find are the GT-T/GTS-T cars including sedans, those are the drift missiles and street racers you see with some miles and years on them.

I've worked with a few people who own import dealers. They do alright but the cars they sell are typically pretty cheap, like $20k and under, and their money makers seem to be the small K-cars and the vans which people love for camping. The Patrols and Pajeros were also popular and were far more common on their lots than the higher end sports cars. One that I worked with told me that if I gave him $15k he would get me any car I wanted from Japan so that should give you an idea of how much they get them for at the auctions.

i am a GTR fan and have an Alpha R35 today but there is no way I would drop that kind of money on an R34.

I would be buying a mint Huracan Performante or a GT3RS for that amount of money

What Huracan Performante can you buy for that money? lol

There is a 2018 performante on eBay for 299k. The R34 bidding is at 275k with 2 days to go. My point was to say if the price of the R34 started to approach 300K I wouldn’t spend it on that car. I would spend it on an exotic.
