And by the time the tech is perfected the gov't will be taxing the ass off EV's to a point of net zero savings.

Will be a fun little treat for all those who saved the planet
They tax everything already, what are you going to do about it? Ev can be charged by solar panels at home. If gas runs out or theres a shortage like there was in the south, what are you going to do? Hoard gas from another state? Lol

Point is a lot of arguments from EV owners is cost of operation. That will not be an argument you can make forever. And the major driving factor of EV is saving the planet. Gas powered cars already have the capability to be faster than 99.99% of people can handle so to me, none of the EV arguments make any sense unless you are a skill-less pleb that needs a car to drive for them while you eat boogers.

From what I understand...I could be wrong, the cost to charge (fill up) a typical EV is 40% less $$ that a typical ICE fill up. If the EV consumer is turned on by (pun intended) by the technology and performance then it's an awesome choice. But - if the EV consumer is purchasing to "save the planet" they may have been duped. I'm fairly confident...based on the infancy of EV's - it'll only get better. "Cannonball Run" better...who knows.

Like Diablo Mike said, nobody posting in these forums is even arguing about saving planet. They are adapting better to change than the people who haven't even tried out an ev.

I want to do this when I get solar panels, then I can not only power my home paying less on electricity, but also charge vehicle without paying for gas. Only the toys will be relegated to gasoline.

Id driven a P85D. I launched it. My reaction was "jesus christ" but it got old right quick.

Ended up racing a hellcat today in my p100d...he spun and went sideways at the light and i was a few bus lengths ahead already when I noticed.
Are the teslas dead easy to drive and race? Absolutely. Does it bother me in the least? No.

I was spending over 100 a week in my Jeep Trackhawk...I plug in almost everynight (even though I don't need to) and my electric bill went up 13 dollars for the first month I had an EV.

another thing to note is Elon has not restricted his patents to anyone and has publicly announced he hopes other car companies will compete and beat him. many many many car companies are in the works of doing that right now. the days of 8 and 9 second EV's is here and it's only getting better with time.

idk about you, but if I am buying a vehicle as expensive as the trackhawk, idgaf about the cost of gas. I spend a stupid amount of money on gas each month and I just don't care. #v8s4life. I just spent $200 in gas for a single day for a track day.

lol This is just marketing hype. To use the patents, you would have to use Telsa's proprietary batteries and platforms. No car company would ever do that lmfao. It is just a farce.

Im assuming you dont have solar panels yet? My coworker swears they paid something like 20 cents in electricity for the entire year last year, they only got billed once.

I would be way more concerned with a shortage of electricity, as well as them having total control over it. Just like them controlling the nest thermostats for folks in Texas, what if they’d only let you run a mid 13 because too many people needed AC?

They can control whatever they want...remember the gas shortages a few months back? Toilet paper shortages, wood prices etc etc etc.

Yes EV acceleration is phenomenal. It's better than any ICE...in fact ICE has most likely reached its pinnacle. That said, ICE pinnacle is pretty damn good. As stated in an earlier post my 2020 F150 has an 800 mile range & a five minute recharge...ha ha (fill up) that will last for another 800 reliable miles. My Grandmother's 1977 Pinto is faster than any EV from Boston to Florida. Obviously range is a major EV concern. Perhaps that's why 20% of EV consumers switch back to ICE. BUT...that still leaves 80% that don't and swear by them. BTW - I did not state that my F150 or my Grandmothers Pinto is better than a Tesla. They're just faster in a longer duration race. Imagine a Tesla pit stop in a NASCAR race?

I'd have an EV for around town use. If money were no object I'd rather have the two-seater Tesla that's coming out. But either way I wouldn't take it to a track.

But to be fair I don't take my Shelby to the track either (nor have I ever).

I think it would be fun to have variety but that's me :)

Funny, my Ford Pinto is faster than any EV around a track with the exception of the VW IDR :D- true story

Speaking of Ford Pinto's...I just checked the NADA value of a 1972 Pinto. High retail = $6,700. Original MSRP = $1,960
That's more than 350% appreciation.
I wonder what the depreciation is for used older Tesla's...will there ever be a "classic Tesla" ...not that the Pinto is a classic...
Where do old, crashed, used up Tesla's end up? Are they even recyclable?

yes, and it's the only one i can recall in 40 years on earth. you're right though, they can control anything, just seems like adding more strain to the electrical grid that already can't handle the current usage is asking for trouble.

that said, i definitely wouldn't turn down a ride/drive in one simply for the experience.
