Hey everyone, just purchased a 2008 GT500KR. Local to Cali first owner, Texas second owner. Now in Ontario, Canada as third owner. 8,600 miles.

The dealer topped up all fluids and changed the oil/filter. My question is given the age and kilometres, what should I be changing in short order? I’m most concerned about brake fluids, differential, gear oil, etc..

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. This was and will remain a summer only car, therefore, maybe 3,000 miles per year.

Thanks!

Nice find! I’d calm down & enjoy the car & follow the owners manual on regular fluid change intervals.
With the low miles, oil is old. I don’t mean your oil, I mean oil in general. With low miles, the oil isn’t dirty in the diff etc.
Sure you can change it all for piece of mind. Either way, enjoy the car.

Enjoy your KR over the summer and then change all of the fluids before putting it up for the winter.

Post some photos

I'm down Windsor way in Ontario. For peace of mind considering the age I might suggest a brake fluid flush and replacing the fuel filter, both inexpensive service items.

Good stuff. Will look at that.

Just curious, would you change the oil after the summer before storage, or after the winter before the summer drive? Or both?

And when do you change your fluids typically? Do they have to be changed every single year if I do them all at the end of this summer? Just looking for opinions to assist as this is my first summer- only car.

Figure out what Gates P/N the supercharger belt is and throw one in the trunk. When they start to fray you don't want to be figuring that out on the road somewhere.

Back to you question about oil.
I use exclusively AMSOIL SIGNITURE SERIES 5w-50 and change it before storage because I prefer clean oil without contaminants during our CDN long winter storage period. My vehicle is driven summer only as yours is.

Amsoil oil filters are the BEST on the market and used since my 08 Shelby was new.

Thanks enormous. And when do you change the other oils? Differential? Gear oil? Brake fluids? Anything else?

Right now, I will change the oil, fill up the tank with non-ethanol Shell 91, and add fuel stabilizer. What am I missing guys?

Davey, I changed my factory Trans and Diff fluid to Amsoil at 50,000 Km myself and flush brake fluid ( BREMBO LCF 600+) in my street driven Shelby every two seasons.
I don't use any fuel stabilizer but never miss an opportunity to use of non Ethanol Shell 91 .
I might add that I store my Shelby with Shell 91 right to the lip so that no condensation can develop during long term storage. Condensation due to partial fill can cause tank rust headaches if stored long term as some of our past members here have noted.
Hence, keep your tank as full as possible if you don't drive regularly.

You can send my a PM and text # if I can be of further assistance. I have owned my 08 since new and just retired after 33.5 years manufacturing engines for Fords Powertrain division in Windsor Ontario.

Based on your estimated miles per year, change the oil once per year. Just use Motorcraft oil and filter recommend in the manual.

Change coolant, brake fluid, power steering fluid and diff fluid using oem Motorcraft recommended in the manual. Do it once and be done. Shouldn’t need it agin for several years.

If it doesn’t have an oil catch can, add one to the passenger side.

Enjoy your KR!

I personally would not touch the diff or trans fluids with a car with 8xxx miles. I would change the coolant, and bleed the brakes.

Wow, that is one fine looking KR. I love the paint/stripes colors. Perfect! You really scored, mileage wise. You're going to get a ton of compliments on this one. Enjoy driving it this summer.

I agree with the above comments. You're set on the oil/filter. Just pretty much just change the brake fluid and coolant. IMO the dealer should have done this with the oil/filter change. Rather than just top off the fluids. Not a biggie, though. Easy for you to do.
