i installed a JLT intake after ge a baseline of [email protected] with a 1.760 60’ on a 75 degree day with some humidity and no wind. Yesterday with 48 degree temperatures and no humidity to speak of and 20-30 mph cross wind I ran a [email protected] with a 1.737 60’. there were to other GT500’s there a base running 11.10-11.30@ 129-130 and a CFTP that was running 10.90-11.1 @130-132. This car was there the first time I went as well and had the same trap speed as me but was running 11.0-11.2 @128-129 . I would say the the JLT doesn’t make any power gains on a bone stock car. I believe that the only place it makes 25-40 whp is on the dyno due to the filter being open. I know the stock intake has made about the same increase on the dyno with the lid off. I am going to put the stock intake back on. The JLT also seemed to heat soak more than the stock intake when the inlet temperatures get up in the 150 plus range sitting in traffic or at my local tracks 300’ drags.

Based on the feed back i would agree with your statement. The JLT CAI on a stock vehicle doesn't gain anything. With tunning it may be a big difference.

Seems that weather played the biggest part in the 3MPH gain from before.

Time wise looked like the 60ft made up most of the gain from the 10.884 to 10.709

Congratulations on the time. Impressive

Thanks and yes the 60’ was the difference the other 2 GT500’s were 60’ in the 2.2-1.9 range and that was the CFTP car.

It’s funny you ask that , I have never seen that dyno comparison for some reason. I have seen the stock intake with the lid on and off , but never a JLT VS stock intake with the lid off on the same car for some reason. I think VMP did some drag strip comparisons but the data was inconclusive. Not sure why nobody has done it in the 18+ months these cars have been out. Maybe nobody cares what a bone stock car gains if anything with a cold air kit. Seems like there’s 2 types of GT500 owners, those who leave the car stock and those who go all in. Not too many small bolt on cars or tune only cars.

Great post! I was wondering the exact same thing. In past MYs Ford left alot on the table in this area, intake flow/restriction. They did not leave it on the table with the Predator at stock boost levels. I think the engines actually make even more power when the car is moving and getting the airflow.

03-04 Cobras and 07-14 GT500s get that intake all day. 2020+ cars not so much...

My guess is the big HP improvement could be from removing the lid not the air filters on a stock-ish level? I don’t know for sure, I don’t own a car yet but from what I have seen this could be a possibility?

We did that with VMP's car. The JLT made more a few more horsepower than the stock intake with the lid removed.

I have been saying for years that " street " tuning is the best way to go. Most tuners won't put in the time, both of my cars were tuned that way..

thanks for the heads up! i would be more interested in using race fuel than doing an intake on these cars...that is my plan when I hit the strip. On my ZR1 the race fuel worked really nicely on the stock tune. Curious what it does on the GT5hundo!

Most people also dont want to pay for the time. Street tuning could cost $1,000 to $2,000 depending on rate and hours. Lets be honest 90% are looking for the $100 tune on there now 50k car. Personally makes no sense to me.

hard to tell but my zr1 ran significantly better on 100 octane (which chevy even claims the stock tune will adjust for) and gained over 50rwhp according to the dyno on that fuel alone. It even sounded slightly different at wot. I ran 10.5@134 with just 100 octane. Stock rubber, stock tire pressure, stock weight...everything stock other than the fuel.

Did you get the DA numbers from DragTimes.com for the days you made your runs?

Absolutely, a static Dyno cell even with a large fan blowing at maybe 30mph worth of airflow just isn't giving an accurate picture of the power being made above 60 or 100mph. On road tuning via track or street should really be considered the gold standard.

Most people also dont want to pay for the time. Street tuning could cost $1,000 to $2,000 depending on rate and hours. Lets be honest 90% are looking for the $100 tune on there now 50k car. Personally makes no sense to me.

More like 80K with these cars!

Has anyone pulled the lid and let the car cool down on the same day for a back-to-back comparison? I'd like to run a 1/2 mile event and try that but I don't think my car will be delivered before middle of next summer.
