Who here knows rings? Things like diamond color, clarity, etc. I have one I want to sell, but i'm clueless. 1.02 carats

I have a 14k gold ring with two rows of round diamonds. The inside of the ring is stamped 14k and further down another stamp 1.02, which i've determined is the carats for the diamonds. I found a site that shows the carat weight, the diamond shapes, color, and clarity. Of course I don't have the tools to look at it and tell and even if I did I still would have no idea what i'm doing.

It has a calculator to help you figure out a rough value. I tried to be very harsh on my ring (not saying there's anything wrong, just wanted a fair value at the low end) with the color and clarity and it still gave me an estimated price of $5,508.00.

Anyone who knows anything about diamonds or jewelry know if this estimate sounds somewhat close?

Thanks for any input.

A lot of places give you the rating card when you buy the stone. Otherwise probably have to pay for it to be graded.

Resale value you take it up the ass, roughly a third of the purchase price If you’re lucky from what I found. Diamonds are such a scam

I’d love someone to correct me if I’m wrong

This is pretty spot on. You are better off trying to unload it on your own. Even then its still a tough.

I don't have a rating card on anything like that. Honestly i'd rather not have this ring and multiple expensive watches I have now, I would take it all back, but that's not how the world works, but someone close to me passed away and now I have a lot of things that I know are valuable. I just want to get as much as I can at this point without getting ripped off. I understand i'll have to take a loss on some things, but i'm not going to sell my $5K Breitling for $1k.

Take it in for a proper appraisal. I’ve never seen a ring that has a stamp which displays the total weight of stones which are set. Many small diamonds in a setting are not nearly as valuable as a single large stone. Good luck!

Jewelry/watch market can be tough.
I just unloaded a bunch of timepieces that gave me quarters on the dollar. Consider taking the ring to a local jeweler to have them rate the diamond.

You are going to have to pay to have the ring appraised to get a correct value on it. No way are you going to probably even come close to an actual value trying to do it without tools and without experience. Pay up and do it right. THEN you can set what you feel is a fair price on a resale. A private sale will definitely get you more money, but it's not likely going to sell quickly. It will have to be your decision on whether or not you'll take less money for a fast sale to a jeweler, so more money potentially in waiting for someone to buy it.

Like other said. You’ll have to have it graded. Resale last time I checked was like 30-50 cents on the dollar. If I were you I’d just get it graded and keep the diamond and have it put into a new piece.

I forgot to add - I do have the grading card for this diamond so I searched a few diamond auction sites based on that criteria and this was pretty much correct.

I debate whether I'd rather sell a $3,500 stone for $1200 bucks or just sling shot that bitch into the middle of a lake, so it's still sitting around collecting dust.

Thanks for the advice. I'll pay to get it appraised. I inherited this ring along with a bunch of TAG Heuers, Rolex, etc. I won't go one, this isn't something to be proud of.

sorry for the situation bringing all this about.

Depending on what the watches are I would think you could get decent money out of them, even if you have to sit on them for a big. The diamond thing is always bullshit unfortunately

Are you married yet? If not, why not just keep the stone and then have those diamonds reset in an engagement ring down the road?

Depending on the rolex, you can make some BIG bucks on the grey market reselling them.

divorced, ex gave me her rings back. Even though it was amicable would rather not re-purpose that stone.

I'd rather not say exactly how many watches I have, but the Rolexes I will not sell. I have two of them and these are the most sentimental watches out of my lot. To give you an idea I have two TAG Heuers, Breitling, 3 Omega Seamasters, a vintage 50s Omega Seamaster, and a bunch of Bulovas. I had a Bulova Sinatra watch that was brand new, automatic, that I gave to my friend for Christmas/Birthday. He helped me out a lot during my time of need, so I thought it was a small gift to give to a friend.

I didn't mention, but I have a matching ring that is the same type of ring with one less row. So 5 diamonds, instead of 10. I think my favorite ring is this plain gray band lol.

If you take it for an appraisal be careful and have it appraised in front of you. Some places may try to witch out the diamond if it’s worth anything and you would never know.

If you can find an old guy in a well established pawn shop, he’d probably have more actual stone grading experience than most jewelry shops.

Yeah I know, this whole industry is so shady. They'll sell you a ring quicker than you can pull out your wallet, but trying to get the ring appraised, or even find a reputable shop is mind numbingly exhausting.
