Anyone have a good go-to for obsolete parts? I'm looking for an ignition switch for a 96 ford Escort wagon, 1.9/5spd manual, LX model. The kicker is the manuf date. My car was built 01/96. Everything I've found is only good until 12/01/95.

Contacted local ford dealer and he had nothing showing anywhere. Motorcraft number is SW5154. Doesn't have to have the lockset, but if it has the right switch I'm willing to go that route. My understanding is that the one I need has a 2 and 4 prong connector, while the one that's readily available in both motorcraft and aftermarket has a 2 and 6 prong connector.

The 96 escort is a red headed step child, as apparently this switch was only on about six months of production. The 97 model is completely different and won't work.

Nope, I’ll take anything. All aftermarket I’ve found is for 12/1/95 production or earlier.

I'll continue my search tomorrow. I had results but got interrupted and when I went back my system was malfunctioning, but I was seeing similar results showing the build date. I had more options when I used our main parts search but I didn't get to search through it all the way. If you don't mind, post the vin or message me and it will make it easier because I think the malfunction had to do with the fact that I didn't have an exact vin and the searches don't work that well with manually input info.

Can you rewire the 6 prong connector to the 4 prong connector with a wiring diagram?

Important parts are manuf date after 12/1/95, 1.9L / 5 speed trans. It's a wagon but I've not seen any differentiation for a wagon.

Found what you found - that appears to be only the lockset from what I can tell. No dates either, from what I can tell.

No idea, but I'd be willing to try if I could find both versions of the wiring diagrams. Unfortunately, the switches are also made differently and the mounting points don't match up with the lock cylinders, as they are apparently different as well. All these changes for less than six months of production on a freaking escort lol. But, it does get 43mpg and is super cheap to operate.
