I remember my high school years being all IMPORT vs DOMESTIC. But now I'm just happy to see enthusiast cars being made. This and a GR Corolla would look great next to an S650 Mustang in my driveway while the 2026 Challenger (powered by Dyson) goes by sounding like it's just rolled off the set of the Jetsons.

What I always wanted from Mitsubishi was a 99 Eclipse GSX. I feel like that was the last real Eclipse before they killed it with the next abomination they called an eclipse.
Im excited about this car and the Corolla GR. The 25 year old me will always love this segment!!

I wish Mitsubishi would bring back a class ass-kicking Evo.

Looks way better than the current one. But for that price I would have to go a different route.

The newer hot hatches are too civilized. I love my crazy hard boost hit, torquesteering (even with LSD) Mazdaspeed 3. The Mazdaspeed 3 is like are car you build yourself to be very capable, but a little crazy to boot.

I actually really want a GR. Never wanted a Toyota so bad as I do that car. It will be a collector item for sure in the future with how wild it is built and what they threw at it.

It feels weird to say, but I'd rather a FWD-based compact like the GR Corolla or this FL5 Type R over a RWD manual Supra or Z. I guess these feel like traditional JDM hot rods we never got in the past.

Precisely! They hold more to the past than the RWD cars do imo, and they are far more exciting for it. The RWD JDM cars haven't excited me in a long time.

That's for the Circuit model or whatever theyre calling it I think?

So I looked it up and Toyota states they will build more than 8500 the first year and more than 6500 are headed to the US. There will only be 200 of the Moriza edition which ups torque number to 295lb ft and loses 106lbs or so with a rear seat delete. That will run about $50k for that model. Starting price is $36k for the core.

Curious to see how well they respond to aftermarket parts. Hopefully that 3cyl has a lot more in it.

They really are a hoot. Mine is mild at 320whp/390wtq, but spinning in 4th when passing while it is trying to pull you off the road a little is a hoot. You have to DRIVE it.
I have a Gen Juan, 08 Speed3. Had it since 08, 165k on it now. Original turbski. Stock except Speed3 intake and Hks Bov. Daily driven its whole life. Had the timing chain done, and consumables. I really think the Chevron Techron fuel treatment every year and Rotella T6 have kept the old girl going. Never had to clean the intake valves, most get the carbon build up. Problems from one of the first Direct Injection systems. I agree, fun little cars.

I had a red Gen 1 and loved the interior better than the Gen 2, but the Gen 2 had a lot of other improvements.

This was my Gen 1 right after I got it. Never modded it as much as the Gen 2 is. Traded it not long after owning it due to moving, getting foster kids with the first wife, and needing something bigger.

Looks a hell of a lot better than the last, the last one does drive great though. I just can’t see 45 grand (or more with admin) for a Honda civic. Ouch.
My wife and I went back and forth last night on it and eventually decided the old one looked more... correct?

The last one grew on me so hard that I could actually see myself driving one. I don't know why, it's probably because it's a nut job of a car and it looks the part too.

And I agree with everyone GR>this.
