My experience from a couple years ago convinced me the ruling caste wants these cars to die. I’ve owned my ‘03 since ‘04 and have always left the Diablo Predator switch in the custom tune position. It passed multiple smog checks in that configuration until 2018.
In 2018 I took it to my regular...
YW. Honestly, make sure ALL of your monitors are working. The way I read it current regulations mandate that any vehicle being registered from out of state must pass smog irrespective of whether it’s being registered in a smog exempt county.
Used to be they would just do a sniff test for...
Top sticky post from 03Cobra#694 in the marketplace.
Word of advice from a current resident: if you’re moving to a smog check county and ANY of your monitors are disabled you will be sent to BAR referee who will then pick it apart and deny certification based on any combination of arbitrary...
Fumoto is a lifesaver. First time I changed the oil on my 2012 Lariat 4x4 the oil shot out like a firehose. Fumoto got installed on the next oil change and now it’s easy.
Unfortunately the filter is still a blind install on that 3.5L ecoboost.

Here’s the thing. Those tires at that age are dangerously oxidized and potentially dry-rotted. I learned this the hard way in a lifted F-350 many years ago.

If you’re looking for an unbiased, totally objective response you’ve definitely come to the wrong site my friend [emoji41].
Seriously though, there weren’t any R vert’s so I don’t understand the question.

And it looks like BAR field stations may be closing ‘temporarily’.
COVID-19 Impacts on BAR Programs and Services
FFS this has got to be the absolute definition of ‘non-essential service’.
If they’re shut down does that mean you get a pass on inspection?

Wow. The mullets, KISS makeup, and flava-flav bling are impressive in that forum.
Unfortunately that post is a couple years old, and the state seems to have tightened the thumbscrews since then. Paying a fine wasn’t an option for me, and even if it was this time my bet is it won’t be next...
That was my plan B. My family lives up in Del Norte county, so if I couldn’t get past the smog I was just going to wait a bit then register at her address, until the smog nazi’s invade up there anyway.

Wait. What? Where is this happening and what agencies are involved? Commercial vehicles have always been subjected to safety inspections, but passenger vehicles haven’t.
Nope. But then I’m bone stock except for the tune. I always hesitated doing any mods because the California stupidity is so unpredictable.

I’m of 2 minds on this one... on one hand I’d love to just flip Gruesome Newsom a big fat finger and head out... but on the other hand I feel like I should stay and fight the idiocy however I can.

He was alright. He did say that a custom tune that has disabled monitors will be a BAR inspection going forward. Seemed to be paying a lot of attention to air intake.

Well, it passed no problem. The BAR referee said he’s been swamped the last few months because of the new rules. He said to make sure it’s back on stock tune for future smogs. As soon as he pulled it back around for me I flipped the switch back to the custom tune.

Got appointment with referee tomorrow at 1. Just looked at my original paper work and found the switch instructions for the chip, so dug around behind the passenger kick panel and found the cable and switch. I literally hadn’t touched it for 14 yrs! Flipped the switch to factory tune and drove...
Don't know about the monitors, and the guy at the smog shop couldn't tell me why it called for a referee. When he got the message on the screen it wouldn't let him go any further.

2003 Cobra w/76K mi on it. Only mod is Diablo predator chip. Went to get it smogged on Saturday. As soon as they hooked me up and scanned the VIN the system reported the check couldn’t be completed and it needed to go to referee. It’s ALWAYS passed smog with great numbers, never ever failed or...
For a great SMH experience, Google up the link to the Kalifornia department of consumer affairs handbook of tenant/landlord responsibilities.
Yes, it really is 121 pages long.

Having BEEN (past tense)a California landlord let me weigh in on the other side. California tenants have ALL the rights. They’re almost impossible to evict, they withhold rent under ‘warrant of habitability’ for minor situations they create and they break shit constantly. I had one file a...
