Yeah, thought about it.
At the end of the day, it needs a motor rebuild or replacement anyway, which would dictate the wiring. Wife (yeah, now wife, I said girlfriend earlier) approved a motor. But finding someone to competently build an old mod motor is tougher and tougher (the folks who...
Thanks, fellas. And love to see some other old members still hanging around!
I'll keep the '01 at least until it's finally completely fixed! Frankly, I think the answer is a Coyote swap, but I hate deleting the mod motor lol. I have a soft spot for them. After all, still have three mod...
So it's been two years. The PCM-fuse blowing problem I was never able to diagnose; the car still does that crap. Given that the previous owner wired stuff with lamp cord sections and stuffed aluminum foil under the coil covers, something bad happened to the engine bay wiring harness I suspect...
Update! Locked up the supercharger on the 2004 in October of 2019 trying to go faster with some nitrous and the car sat through the pandemic. Finally got it out and washed it, and ordered a Gen 5 Whipple 3.0 with race port to replace the old 3.4L.
Really crappy picture of as things are right...
Merry Christmas!
Put the '04 Cobra's old CCW 505a's on the car to see how they'd look. They need to be polished; have been sitting in the back of my garage for at least a year. Don't mind the camber; I've just now set ride height on the coilovers and need to get an alignment.
Found my PCM-fuse-blowing cause, I think: the ignition capacitors on the backs of the cylinder head. I poked one and its insulation fell off. Used this as an excuse to start my Feal coilover install (don't mind the wheel well dirt, I'll detail it).
Also started the third or fourth engine...
Happy Thanksgiving! Car was running and driving great until it started eating PCM fuses. Diagnosing that. Below is a pic of it waiting for the tow truck. Definitely planning on doing the turbos!
Yes, the tail lights are absolutely critical on these 99-01's!
Thanks!
It is a 75. It was my grandfather's car. It'll need to be painted at some point too!
Alright, more updates (pardon the dust):
Almost forgot, I also got a new set of these.
Sorry the picture is so small, and I did not take a picture after I polished them up but before I took them to the body shop. The ones the car had were in eh shape. Just wouldn't do with the fresh paint.
Hey Kevin! Same to you. We really need to catch up sometime.
CobraBob - I changed them just because I felt like the 19"s were a little too big. These are 18's.
Stay tuned folks!
Thanks, and will do. I do not know that I ever want to have contact with the PO after this experience! Or the shady-ass Oklahoma City dealer that repo'd this and listed it on Copart and had the balls to try to haggle up the price.
Yeah, I was a little surprised. But he had no idea about...
BTW, still at this. Dropped it off at the painter today. Work done that I haven't posted about includes a UPR tubular K-member to fit the turbo kit (still uninstalled) and some MM coilovers. Also, new glass on the passenger side!
Hoosier R7's all the way around. It's pretty much the tire for the Texas Mile, and before that, it was Hoosier R6's. R7's also hook really well on the street despite being completely stable. I had some MT drag radials on my car for less than a week; the side-to-side wobbling was totally...
Thanks! They require a small fire extinguisher mounted within easy reach of the driver. No Hans device, though I think it's recommended. I believe the requirements go one step higher at around 215 MPH.
Thanks Kevin! Hope all is well with you too. Steve texted me today. I need to get back...
Still getting stuff off the cameras, but made a quick video:
No one launches hard at the TX mile, save for the few odd ducks who also do burnouts. Also, that car runs so smooth its a little deceptive. It was off like a rocket.
Haha, believe it or not, it's very smooth and stable. It's...
Thanks all!
Blaine@PSI did it several years ago in a red Terminator. I believe he also went 205 (205.3 ;)). I think our setups are nearly identical from reading his older posts. The car actually felt very stable once I figured out the best part of the runway to race on. The car has 2.73's...
Thanks fellas. Yeah, wayyyyy too much.. Back in the day, you could get a motor built for 6-7k. It's gotten a lot more expensive.
Thanks!
Pistons most of the time (do not recall exactly what). Crankshaft snout once. And cracked crankshaft the last time. The intercooler mods consist of a...
Thanks!!
Got her back on the ground and took her out for a test drive. I need to bleed the brakes again, but rides much better. No more clunk when you change gears, etc. Going to get her back up in the air to give everything another once over and take care of some final details on the rear...
