Have someone manipulate the wires from inside the trunk while you are in the car. Make sure the trunk lid is closed to duplicate the same scenario. This might help troubleshoot a possible short if you can duplicate the issue.
The Ford dealer says the only warranty is whatever remains of the 3/36,000. Their $41K price is "not negotiable internet pricing". Im sure if I said no, they would come down a little bit, but I don't think they would come down to $39K + an extended warranty.
