Brad Gusler resets the EcoBoost Mustang e.t. record with a historic pass

From moment Ford announced it would offer a turbo four-cylinder in the 2015+ Mustang, the engine platform has earned detractors and supporters. One of the most prominent supporters of the gas turbo direct injection 2.3-liter engine in the S550 is Brad Gusler of BG Racing. He immediately put together an EcoBoost Mustang racer and hurled the platform into the record books with a series of ever-quicker 10-second runs.

The online giant’s annual car show draws over 1,700 Mustangs

If you have modified your modern Mustang, odds are you have purchased something from AmericanMuscle.com. Born of the S197 era, this company quickly grew into an online superstore for all things to modify your Mustangs. To celebrate its customers the company began hosting a car show and that soon outgrew its venue and moved to the storied Maple Grove Raceway. This year’s eighth-annual event took place on August 13.

It’s hard to believe that there was a time when Ford’s modular engines didn’t get a lot of respect. When the Two-Valve 4.6-liter engine took over in the Mustang GT in 1996, enthusiasts weren’t thrilled and most gravitated toward the Four-Valve 4.6-liter in the SVT Cobra. Jump to the present day and the modular family of engines blossomed with many potent performers, including the modern Coyote.

With the launch of every new performance car platform, the race begins for tuners and drivers to push that hardware to new milestones. When it comes to Mustangs, eclipsing certain quarter-mile elapsed times is the ladder these brave souls try to climb first. At the onset of the 2015 Mustang, the new S550 platform quickly moved past the 11-, 10- and 9-second barriers. Then the pace slowed a bit.

The wait was finally over. There have been two events since the NMRA Ford Drag Racing season kicked off in Florida, so it’s been a minute since the The Livernois Motorsports EcoBoost Battle presented SVTPerformance raced. Over the weekend the second race of this mini series went down in Hebron, Ohio, at the NMRA Super Nationals.
