Hey guys, I'm a new owner of a 2000 Cobra R and I've got a few questions. First, the car has the aftermarket Bassani exhaust on it. Installed on the car is the Bassani x-pipe with 2 cats. I assume that's not stock for an R as they ran the 4 cat pipe stock, yes? I also have a Bassani X-pipe with no cats. As we don't have smog requirements in Oregon, is it worthwhile to install the pipe without cats. I understand it will be louder, are there any performance gains to be had by doing so?
Second, There is an aftermarket aluminum air intake installed. I can email a pic to anyone who would be interested in helping me figure this out as I can't attach a pic here. I've sent an email to Bassani as I've read they may have made a prototype or two and this may be one of them.
Lastly, I've got an Autologic 2001 chip that is not installed. I've researched it a bit and have found out that it's an older, programmable chip capable of switching between 4 different tunes. Does anyone know of a company that can still read theses chips as I'd like to know what's on it before I install it. Any help on this will be appreciated. Thanks guys!

One last question, the last 3 numbers of the VIN on a 2000 R designate it's production number yes?

The stock exhaust on a 2000 Cobra r is a Bassani X-pipe.. It has 2 cats and 2 resonators. The muffler is a borla system. Getting rid of the cats will make the car a louder but you will also pick up a substantial amount of hp. Bassani made a catless (off-road) system and also an x-pipe with high flow cats along with an after market cat-back. The x-pipes and mufflers are now all discontinued from Bassani. If you are looking to get an aftermarket cat-back you can look at Spin Tech exhaust. Quite a few members here have posted great feedback about this exhaust system.

As far as your intake goes; this thread will answer your questions if it looks like this.
    http://www.svtperformance.com/forums/showthread.php?831294-2000-Cobra-R-Intake-Identification

    To show you power gains..
    Stock 330/339
    Fulltiltboogieracing intake and tune. 357/369
Bassani cutback with intake and custom tune 379/395

I still have the stock x-pipe but my tuner says with deleting the resonators and cats, I should be able to pick up another 15-20hp

As far as your chip, Saleenrose deals with diablosport and most mustang tuners deal with SCT. I personally don't know anything about Autologic. I would recommend a dyne tune and not a mail order tune unless you go with an SCT Tuner and ac427cobras tune.

The last 3 numbers of your vin actually don't mean anything... You can look in the black binder you should of gotten with the car and it will have a plaque located on the inside telling you which number out of 300 your car is... If not you can go to svtregistry.com and you have to pay them to find out but they will send you a certification letter for your car.

I think I answered all of your questions. Feel free to post a picture of your x-pipe and I will tell you if it is factory or not.

I do tune with Diablosport, I have had good success with tuning a couple of R's. I live pretty close to you in the big picture and race allot around Oregon and Washington. Would you like to open track the car? 15thj of September we are doing a open track at Spokane County Raceway Park. Your Autologic chip is outdated and probably has no usefulness left in it. Could throw on dyno and see if it works or if it is junk but wont be able to change that chip. If this car came out of Cali it may have been removed to pass a air test.

I was thinking the chip was probably removed for smog reasons as the car was originally in CA and the Bassani x-pipe without cats was included with the sale and the car wouldn't have passed smog with it installed. I just don't want to install the chip and hurt the car. I do plan on open tracking and autocrossing the car once the fear of owning it wears off. :) I'm selling my dedicated road race mustang to make room for this, so I'll need something to scratch that itch. Does that intake tube look at all familiar?

Once you drive it on track you will understand how to get the newness off. The mods will just keep going at that point. The funny thing about this car is that on the street it really does not feel as if it is fast, then you hit the track with it and it all comes together and works, the cars you can pass or run with are now as fast and you just passed them. A fun car.

No idea here. The only other one I have seen in person was at Carlisle three years ago and no one was there to ask.

Than we'll just say that it's some wildly exclusive prototype worth at least another $5k, right? :) At least it's well made. Angles, welds, finish and all the correct provisions are there.

Yeah, there is probably zero benefit between your intake, bassani, and the FTBR ac427cobra makes other than the fact the FTBR intake is readily available. I doubt any increase in hp numbers since they are all very similar. Does it have a 90mm MAF?

From what I can tell from the part number on the MAF, it's the stock 80mm. I've read the 90mm MAF from a Lightning is a nice upgrade. It will obviously necessitates a tune as the new MAF won't work well with the stock injectors. Calibration, etc. I'm curious if my old chip is programmed for that or if was programmed for the upgraded exhaust. Fun stuff to figure out.

Like Saleenrose said, its outdated and it probably isn't useful. I wouldn't take the chance on installing it to see if its tuned correctly. It would be cheaper to purchase a diablosport tuner or an SCT tuner rather than fixing a damaged engine if failure were to occur.

You guys are 100% right. I'm going to add a 90mm MAF and have it dyno tuned. I don't see a big HP difference by installing the offroad x-pipe, as the high flow pipe is already installed. Do you agree with that?

The way I look at it is if 5 more rwhp gets me past that pesky GT3, Lets get the 5 hp, I also have my car registered in Oregon and have no real ill effects to removing the cats. The car is driven to the gas station and back to the track so I don't feel I am killing anything. Now you must be careful if a Subaru owner in Oregon catches you. Tree Huggers and all.

You're preaching to the quire when it comes to disliking Subarus. It's almost mandatory in Bend to own one. Bleh!!! Go crunch granola elsewhere. As far as the O/R X-pipe, did you have a check engine light after installing. I understand that can be taken care of in the tune or with MIL eliminators. I may end up putting it on and have no intentions of selling any part off this car yet. I am doing the 90mm MAF and will have it dyno tuned.
