My 99 Cobra would smoke on start-up if I had only let it run for a short time the previous start-up usually it had to sit overnight for it to smoke. It ran really rich on start-up and would wash the rings down if I didn't let it fully warm up. It never smoked if I allowed the car to warm up to full temperature before restarting it.

Mine use to smoke also once in awhile during cold start up. I remember reading somewhere, gotta really open up the throttle once in awhile to clean out the carbon. Since I started doing that, had no smoke problems whatsoever, also, its a lot of fun *cleaning* the carbon out.

Jimmy, thanks for the link to the Break-In page. That's great info
that everyone needs to know. I've always been told to accell and
decel in 2nd gear 4-5 times, then drive normal for a bit, and then
repeat several times and change oil. Seems like about the same
thing as this guy advocates. Thanks again.

I don't beat the hell out of it, but I'll do hard pulls from 3000 to 5000 RPM, and let off the gas and let the revs drop.

for about the 300th time, its VALVE SEALS. Some of the oil sits in the head and is caught on the lip of the head by the valve seals.

when the car sits the oil seeps past the seals and you burn it.

as long as you don't lose a lot, it is nothing to be concerned with.

This has only happened to me once, I thought it was because I parked on a down hill slope. Hope I don't see it again anytime soon. :nonono:

My 03 started doing it right after I put Mobil synthetic in it. Only on cold starts and never when I ask someone to watch it blow smoke, like today at Race Related. Go figure.

I beat the absolute piss out of my car. I have 22k miles on it and I bet at least 12k are wot miles. I just started getting the smoke recently. The car runs fine and still pulls hard as hell. I will try "cleaning" it again:rockon: a few more times. Im pretty sure it is the valve seals. Im just going to keep the oil filled up and put some oil breather caps on the pcv and see if that helps. I have plans to spray the car next week so I want to see what the problem is fast.
