Looking for a shifter for the T-56 in my '03 Cobra ( I just got it home last night with less than 100 miles and I'm asking about parts swapping. Is this a sickness, or what:-D )

What are the "Accepted" shifters ??? Also, I need to be able to put a "Line Lock / Roll Control" switch type ball on it. I can drill & tap the threads in the ball to match the stick- no problem.

Congrats on the purchase and welcome to the club!

The easiest way to find out popular information like that is to do a search but Steeda's Triax, UPR's Blue Thunder, and Pro5.0 are the most popular. MGW makes a shifter handle that is completely adjustable if you need help reaching 5th from the seating position you like.

I've researched this topic to death, so I will give my insight:

The PRO 50 and the STEEDA TRI-AX are the "cake" shifters for our 03 Cobras.

PRO 50 direct: http://www.pro-50.com/shifter_t56.htm

Steeda Tri-Ax direct: http://www.steeda.com/store/-catalog/t56shifter.htm

The PRO 50 comes with a very straight handle.
The TRI-AX comes with an adjustable handle.

PRO 50 claims solid STEEL non-breakable parts.
TRI-AX does not.

PRO 50 is a far reach for a long-legged (tall) driver.
TRI-AX plug-and-play for a taller driver, just adjust handle as needed.

Here is a good PRO 50 review: http://www.yellowmustangregistry.com/Pro50.html

I have personally decided on the PRO 50 since I am short (5'7") and I don't have any problems with reach at all. If I do, I will purchase the MGW handle to attach to the PRO 50 http://www.mgwltd.com/mustang_shift_handle.html

If you plan on using a BIG shifter ball, you may have clearance problem with the stock PRO 50 handle. I use the MGW "Gripper" knob. The threads on these shifts are the same as stock for the knob.

The other two shifters available that FEW people have are:

The HURST shifter: http://www.rpmoutlet.com/03shifter.htm

The KIRBAN Quik-Shifter available at Amazon Racing: http://www.amazonracing.com

I don't know what a "cake" shifter is....but I have the UPR Blue Thunder and am VERY satisfied with it. It's the same as the Triax but it has stiffer preload springs to help find 3rd a lot easier. Why pay for the name? The UPR is about $40 cheaper....quality piece.....

"cake" is slang. Like "That Saleen S7 is the CAKE, BABY!"

have your cake and eat it too!

I don't care for UPR. Everything I've ever ordered from them never came with instructions. Sure they have cool shiney things.. but the UPR CAI is a copy of the Densecharger, etc.

Also, didn't UPR have several different company names? What happened to that UPRPRODUCTSSUCK website?

So far they're orders have been inconsistent, I'll place an order for simple items, then 3 months later I'll email and ask "where's my order" and then days later it shows up UPS.

There are far better manufacturers than UPR. Just my opinion.

Ok, instead of "CAKE" shifters, they can be "TOP CHOICE" shifters, "MOST PURCHASED AND USED IN THE 03 COBRA", "ELITE", "THE BEST"

Did my research, Pro 5.0 and Tri-Ax are the top contenders for our 03's. THE END.

Pro 50 is supposed to have a shorter throw than Tri-Ax.

Kirban is supposed to have a shorter throw than Pro 50, but not 100%.

There was a poll a few month's back, the Tri-Ax and Pro 5.0 were tied. Do a search if interested.

Hey Mike I don't care for UPR either. But for future reference if you do get something from them all their install instructions are right on their site. PEACE

Obviously I'm biased. I've never had a problem with the two products (CAI and Shifter) I've purchased from UPR. Both came with detailed instructions.

The UPR CAI is not a copy of the Densecharger. The Densecharger is cheap ABS toilet tubing. The UPR is cold drawn powdercoated aluminum tubing.

UPR quality is tops IMHO!

<---is ready to get flamed by the Densecharger guys....

Thanks Terry, But I have narrowed the choices to the Tri-Ax and the UPR. The handle on the PRO 50 looks too straight and would be a reach for 3rd and 5th.

Has anyone seen a Tri-Ax and a UPR side-by-side ???
