10 day old Beijing traffic jam

Apparently it was over 100 miles long and it just entered it's 10th day. I was listening to the radio today and they were talking about some people being stuck there for over 5 days- wtf?! :shrug:

gas refills must be making a killing.

That's the first thing I thought of. Can you imagine the sheer number of cars running out of gas? I would imagine that would be the main reason that it's lasting as long as it is.

You would think that they would shut down (at least periodically) all arteries merging on to the highway, no? What other reason can there be that it still exists?
