No shit, it was hotter than hell at Fabulous Fords and the weather is perfect in AZ.
Like I said in the last update... the motor mounts needed some clearance around the block webbing....

And in case you saw that bug in the first pic and said "wtf was that" here is a close up.
In this pic he's about the size of a quarter give or take.

First snag today. Where the new panels were welded in there was an overhang and the k member would have folded and probably cracked the paint... so what the hell, might as well grind on some fresh and minty paint. I ended up putting down some thick tape on the engine bay side and only ground with the pad moving into the paint instead of away from so it turned out perfect without any chips. After these pics I put some touchup paint on the bare spots.

The motor mounts were a bitch fitting into the k member, but after an hour of jacking around with it we got her to fit. the one bummer is the k member bottom brace won't clear my headers so I will have to make a custom brace.

This pic you can see some orange peel. This strut tower is strange because from the bottom you can see it bad however from the top down its very very difficult to see. The painter offered to wetsand it after everything is all finished... I honestly don't know I even want to mess with it.

Next step is to drop some plumb bobs in order to do some measuring to make sure the K member is square. Cheers!!!
Dupe from merged thread
It's coming together nice... If those little things are the only problems you have your doing good lol
Thanks, I am going bolt up my headers tight to see what my fitments looks like however I have my concerns the collectors are too wide set for the trans humps. We will see....... But I will agree, things have been smooth overall.
Sweet. I saw your posts on FB this morning, looking killer!
Damn! Can't wait to get my engine in so I can see everything come together finally! Keep up the good work
Dat bike doe!
And no one will notice the paint from the awe of everything else. Leave it.
LOL, comes in handy when the DD is down I can ride to the parts store and put parts in the basket! And yeah I was thinking the same thing, taking it back is going to be a hassle and then I have to get it recoated with cquartz... Im just over it at this point.
If it bugs me enough when its done.... FOR SALE! lol
I have a 83GT that I gutted and converted to a drag car 25 years ago then retired it from racing about 10 years ago, I've been wanting to restore it and just can't seem to get motivated.
I may use your build as motivation and for some ideas.
Thanks for sharing.
Please do use it as motivation! Let me know if you have questions. Thanks for the kind words.
I received some grommets in the mail, I will be drilling holes in the fenders and firewall for wires and hoses to come through so to give it that factory look I got these.

I decided to start putting the front suspension together.... greasing up bushings.

This is as far as I got, I sold my K member and it had the stock bolts with it. The kit requires to use their bolts for the front but you use the factory rear bolts and nuts.

I ended up buying the bolts as my local hardware store didn't have M16 shouldered bolts.
I decided to move onto the steering rack however I was greeted by ugly bolts.... as you guys can see, I am either cleaning up every nut and bolt or buying them new, dirty hardware drives me nuts....

These cleaned up decently.

Thats all I really had energy for tonight.
Probably won't have much time to work on it this weekend as I am planning a lot of maintenance on my daily beater. Plugs, trans filter and fluid as well as trans solenoid cleaning.
Nice work. Seeing you post these pictures makes me so happy that I've already got this done. It was the most time consuming part of my build too. That and trying to be careful not to scratch my new paint lol.
Everyone keeps saying "oh the engine is in, it will be done in like a week now right?" No, this is going to take until around september to finish. Still have the full fuel system and all brake lines to do. Plus all the fabrication of brackets etc so I dont drill into the engine bay... Yeah, now is the most tedious part... but will all be worth it in the end.
Didn't work on the car too long tonight... but did get a few things out of the way.
As you can see the engine is assembled with socket head cap screws and I love when shit matches everywhere....

I am waiting on some hardware then I will button up the front suspension, I would like to have the car rolling next weekend.
Had the same issue when I switched from 1 3/4" to 1 7/8" Kooks long tubes. Made some relief cuts and angle bent each end of the original brace approximately 20 degrees and got longer bolts with thicker washers to clearance my headers. I didn't like how close to the ground the brace was after setting the car back down and ended up leaving it off.
I'd really like to see what you end up doing with your custom brace if you go that route. And hopefully it'll be easy to make a second one for my car!
Yeah, im going to have to try and make something that is a multi piece brace to go around the headers instead of under them. Thats going to be down the line a ways though....
