A 2003 350Z would have absolutely waxed the floor against a 2003 Mustang GT.

287hp, 6spd, vlsd, IRS, 3,300lbs, modern interior and great brakes for about $27k.

Mustang? 260hp, 1979 Ford LTD suspension with a POS 5spd for around $25k.

People spent way to much time crying about the Z's weight and heavy handling when it infact would smash the S2k and RX8 on tracks because of the grip and torque.

They were both low 14 second cars driven by an average person. I never saw better than a 13.9 bone stock from either.

Yup. My 04 gt, with 4.30s was a 13.9 car

My 350z felt light years slower.. TIL I turned. Then my god it was a fun car to throw around

I imagine. This sounds retarded, but I never knew they were 2 seaters until a few years ago at a car show. My (stay with me here) Brother-in-laws future brother-in-law was in the area and let me sit in it. I might have been drinking, but I was amazed to see no back seat.

My ‘99 5sp went 13.6 with 4.10s, a tire, off road mid/catback.

Not fast by any means, but after about 30 passes over 2 seasons I went from 14.5s to a respectable time.

Nobody ever used the steering wheel in a new edge GT either.

Mustang x Camaro Challenge says otherwise.

Point remains, in 2003 the 350Z was an outstanding complete package at $27k. The sales numbers back this up as well.

Sales crater in 2008 with the launch of the 370Z in 2009. Economy also took a shit but we also started to see real competition. New Camaro, Challenger, Coyote Mustangs, FRS/BRZ, Genesis, etc.

By 2010 a 330hp 3,400lb $30k ugly ass coupe just wasn't exactly exciting.

We'll have to see if the new 400Z and it's monster power update (and price jump) will pan out in the long term. It ultimately is the same damn car.

Loved it, sold it to a guy that worked for Google.

Carried around the $10,000 cash i got for selling it in my pocket all day (was working at the parts counter)

After work i went up front to sales and slapped it down on my sales guys desk, as they had an 04 cobra i had sourced sitting on the pad.

Not a bad upgrade. But i loved the Z, comfy, sounded good (10” sub in Zenclosure box), and was a riot to drive.

I think the 370Z looked the best since the 240Z.

That said, I’d rather have a new Toyota 86 if I was going for a newer Japanese coupe.
