Your fuel tank is a saddle bag design with the filler neck feeding the driver's side. The fuel pump assembly is on the driver's side with a crossover feed line to siphon fuel from the passenger side. You have two sending units with variable resistors (left and right sides) that when combined will give you an accurate fuel level indication on the dash.

If your gas tank was completely empty and someone only put 3-5 gallons of fuel in it, that would explain your condition. If you fill up the tank, it should balance out the fuel level in both sides. It does not sound like you have an issue.

Add more fuel and it should start migrating over to the passenger side near the top of the tank. If you look under your car at how the fuel tank straddles the driveshaft, it may make more sense.
I jacked up the car from the driver side to make it migrate and didn’t move. I’m gonna siphon it to the other side.

Ditto. You're making this more difficult than it has to be. Fill up the tank as STEP 1! Your issue will likely disappear.

My thoughts on the lack of involvement and post counts has to do with the fact that the cars are older and most everyone has either moved on to a different car to modify or have completed all of the modifications they wanted to perform on these older cars, so they quit posting or researching for new modifications they want to do. Unfortunately for the forum it loses interest for the ones that are still involved and has nothing new to offer the few that check in periodically over longer periods of time such as yourself fullboogie. Also it seems that a few people use the forums today as a form of entertainment to argue with other members, which causes the moderators to become heavy-handed in enforcing the rules. Unfortunately I've seen this a number of times over the years in different forums on numerous topics. I've been the target for a few of these nefarious persons over the years and have learned that to be actively posting on a forum isn't worth the aggravation once this happens. One tactic a guy from Finland used to garner knowledge from me was to start an argument with me so I'd post a lot of technical information to prove to him that I was correct and his comments were wrong. It was his method of learning. After a while it got old and I quit posting to that forum and have never gone back to it in the last 10 years. This was a forum that specialized in Class 8 trucks. When you have a few people that constantly cause issues, the few good people will eventually find another avenue to express their interests causing the forum to lose new informational posts that both the people such as yourself that checks in periodically and the daily posters will see.

I agree with everything you said, Bad. But the problem here is the mod on this subforum. The OP asked a legit question being new to this platform. There were some very helpful responses, but then 03Cobra started shit with his stupid "cool story bro" meme. What new guy is going to stick around for that?

Years ago there was a self proclaimed "instagram influencer" on here who constantly shit posted, and some of the advice he was giving to new guys was outright wrong and dangerous. I took to calling him out over his posts. So did 03cobra take care of the troll? No, he sent me a private message calling me an asshole. That was the final straw, so I logged out and never came back. Yesterday, for some reason, I thought "let's see what's going on with the forum" and logged in. And nothing's changed, same mod being an asshole.

So the OP is likely going to leave and never come back. And this 20+ year veteran of this forum is once again going to sign out and delete the bookmark. And some people openly wonder why forums such as this one are dead.

Show me the post where I called you an asshole and who the said troll was. I also saw at least one more post in here messing with the OP, and the OP was on yesterday.

No one has really give you an answer as to how the fuel system works in the fuel tank to transfer fuel from the passenger side to the driver side of the tank. The fuel pump in the tank sends a certain amount of fuel to a siphon jet at high pressure. This fuel is entering the siphon jet which is pointed back towards the driver side of the tank, the siphon jet is at the top of the tank and the fuel exits in the direction of the driver side of the tank. The siphon jet has a siphon tube that continues to the bottom of the passenger side of the tank. As the fuel from the pump enters the siphon jet in the direction of the driver side of the tank it creates a vacuum in the pickup/siphon tube that goes the bottom of the passenger side of the tank which then draws fuel from the bottom of the passenger side over to the driver side of the tank. Now if the fuel tank is emptied for any reason or you run out of fuel the filler location will fill only the driver side of the tank if you only put in let us say 5 gallons of fuel. Why? Because you haven't added enough fuel to raise the fuel level above the raised portion of the tank to clear the driveshaft. Yes the siphon jet will still be supplied fuel to draw fuel out of the passenger side. The fuel entering the siphon jet will be returned to the driver side of the tank along with whatever air the vacuum draws out of the passenger side. The passenger side of the tank will stay empty. From my understanding you need to add roughly 10 or more gallons of fuel to an empty(dry) tank to start filling the passenger side of the tank and for the siphon system to work properly. Your car is older and has a steel tank, if your really worried about how this system works or have had a failure of the siphon system you could install a crossover at the lowest point of each side of the tank. Unfortunately this would put the crossover hose in a precarious location with it being subject to damage from road debris or a driveshaft failure.

Have you ever watched either of the TV shows Gold Rush White Water or Bering Sea Gold? They use suction dredges, the principle of how your car moves fuel from the passenger side to the driver side is the same. They have a siphon jet that creates a vacuum to draw water and hopefully gold to the surface of the ocean or creek they're working in. If you want to see how this works watch a TV show

Hopefully this helps you understand how the system works and why everyone has told you to fill your tank to see if this cures your problem.

Actually, I find this very offensive by @fullboogie. I highly doubt he'll have proof of my calling him an asshole, or who the troll was he said I never dealt with. I would never do that. 98% sure most of the guys around here like me. Maybe involve @SID297 to see if I'm a reason all forums are dying. No, maybe assbook is a machine these people who can't stand up for themselves is a safe haven for stupid. If you're so worried about me, start a poll to oust me. I like to joke around, that's just me. I'm a happy guy, unlike you who comes in here after 4 years and complains. I'm sure you whine about everything as you get older. You will be 57 in a few months.

We appreciate the job you do around here Brad. There is a reason this forum is still up and running, and you are an integral component of this place. Long live SVTP!!

There was a quote I read a few years ago that should be taken to heart when reading another person's written words. Unfortunately I can't remember who wrote it any longer to give them credit for it.

"No matter how carefully I choose my words, I can't make you know all or exactly what I mean."

The written words do not show expression or tone in the manner of which the person is writing them and can easily be misunderstood, especially when the writer is trying to convey their emotions on a topic being discussed or is emotionally involved with the topic being discussed. Unfortunately this leads to misunderstandings that cause disagreements to occur.

fullboogie seems to have misinterpreted a message he received that he felt was unjust and that caused him to become angry.

The OP's questions may have come off as him trolling, but depending on his age and mechanical aptitude they were 100% legitimate in his mind and have been misconstrued, misinterpreted and weren't taken seriously when the few posts in the thread were posted by others, which caused the disagreement that has now presented itself and caused more anger between members. Unfortunately, I'm not even sure my explanation using words of how fuel is transferred will be understood and whether I made it a visual thought process in the fellows mind for him to understand how fuel is moved in the tank without using an additional fuel pump to transfer fuel from one side to the other in the tank.

Go sit in the corner for a time to think............LOL.

On a serious note, sometimes it is better to think a little before responding. If you're really upset it may pay to think about it for 24 hours before responding. Remember the quote I posted above.

03cobra#694, I may have quoted your comments, yet I say these words to everyone, so don't think I singled you out or called you out. This isn't my intention. A Moderator's job sucks in my opinion and usually isn't rewarding as time goes on because of disagreements. I may have met you, if I'm thinking you are who I think you are at a dyno event in Greencastle PA at a relatives of yours annual business event that occurs on Mother's Day each year. Don't take things too personal and remember your job sucks and people don't respond well to being corrected, especially when they can't see your face and hear the tone of your voice, which leads to misinterpretations of your words.
