Well I guess I am hearing alot of rumors about the future of the Ford Mustang and some have me a little concerned. Looks to me the 2013/2014 may be the last of the "In your face" slap like the 2003/2004 Cobra "Terminator" car was to us car nuts. It seems to be creating its own following like the Terminator did as well and I see many previous "Terminator" owners buying up the 2013 Shelby. What do you guys think??

As for the rumors I will pass on a little something from this weekend I heard. Ecoboost 5.0 motor being tested with 500+ HP. Not a motor for the 2015 Mustang GT but one for Fords "Special" Mustang........

500hp SVO

670-700 hp 5.8 with 6sp manual and 6sp autos available in the shelby

As for the following, totally different cars in that these are available to an even more select group than the Cobras.

The 5.8L (5.4) are going by the wayside next year when the last of the GT500's are produced, as well a supercharged motor from Ford the next generation of boosted motors will be Eco Boost and most likely have DI as well.

From what has often been said, the next mustang will get direct injection which should add a few ponies and if Ford puts in the Boss intake then I wouldn't be surprised to see a 450-475 hp GT. Lets not discount the 5.0 as being inferior to the 5.8 and if the 5.0 gets twin turbos, I know what I'm saving for. The only real issue that we may encounter is we may not get another Shelby for a couple of years. Ford will have the V6 and GT models out first both hardtop and convertibles and if Ford is smart and keeps the Boss, then that most likely will come out a year or two after the 2015s. Good news for me is I'll have time to finish saving up.

Everything Ive heard is the Boss goes bye bye after this year

Also the contract with Shelby is good thru 2016

my guess? Ford brings back the Mach 1 for the new body style, they also stop using the GT500 and release their own " top of the line stang"

5.0 motor is amazing and im anxious to see what they do....but I have the car I want so Im good....just sitting by watching what unfolds

500 HP 5.0, sweet balance

500 hp 5.0 will not make the roll racer, 1/4 mile fans too happy, but alll things considering in a lighter 2015 with IRS, that package will make a heck of a road burner, track day car.
5.0 Motor has 500 hp in it just NA.
God and Ford only know what turbos would do.

2003/04 cobras were built in huge numbers compared to the 13/14 GT500's.
2003: 13,776 units 2004: 5664 units

An ecoboost 5.0 is likely in the new generation platform, but I doubt you will see it the first couple years. Turbo's will create packaging problems in an already tight engine bay and they also complicate quick light emissions systems.

To the OP's point: Yes, I agree the 13/14 vibe very much reminds me of the 03/04 vibe. I still miss my red 03 vert.

The 2013 GT500 is the first car Ford has rolled out since I got my 2003 Cobra that has given me reason to consider trading.

Indeed.
The '13 is a great offering. It changes the landscape and expectations like the 03/04s.

While digging around in 2010-2011 for 2013 GT500 info, I always ran across the "Road Runner" rumor and even seen the 2011 TT 5.0 named EU-1 in Europe. I can bet there has been some Ecoboost V8 work done over the last 3 years.

It would be nice to see a complete lineup like this...

SVO w/ Ecoboost 2.3 330hp
GT w/ DI V8 5.0 440hp
Boss/GT350 Forged DI 5.0 w/ 475HP
Cobra w/ Forged Ecoboost or Twin Turbo DI 5.0 580hp
GT500 w/ Forged Supercharged DI 5.8 (TiVCT) 700hp

i totally agree on the effect of the '13... the '13 is a game changer. it is making me sell my 03, i am going to wait however to see weather i will try to pick up a used 13/14 later on, or w.e the new offering will be. i am also curious/hoping/interested in a ford gt supercar that could be released in the next 5 years. i have read online (who knows how reliable that is) that there might be something in the works.
based on ecoboost in the current lineup, being eco focused my guess is the gt will get the v6 turbo setup similar to the sho tarus. maybe more displacement and boost. i think with the new regulations going into effect, ford will be more concerned about mpg as a whole fleet instead of how much hp the gt will have. i hope it will be around 450 though, but since mpg will be important as a fleet, etc. my guess is it wont be a v8 with turbo(s).
