Does the aeroforce gauge support seeing knock retard? What I'm trying to do is see if I ever have knock. I am tuned and didn't knock on the dyno but just wanted to have my eye on it.

They can't seem to get the conversion correct on the aeroforce for the 11+ Mustang. Todd over at Aeroforce says he has the conversion correct compared to Fords data but the knock PID spits of random numbers from 100 - 500 or so. A few people have brought it up over on the Aeroforce forums but they don't seem in much of a hurry to fix it or explain their conversion rate.

Mine seem to read knock fine? I get readings from NEGATIVE knock (1 - 3) on my VMP tune. I just got a lund cammed tune and am showing some POSITIVE knock (.5 - 2.5) which i gotta log and send them to him. But it seems my aeroforce gauges are reading knock fine.

We've added some new knock parameters for the Ecoboost motors that may transfer to the newer Mustang, 2013/14 and possibly as far back as 2011. In the past (2005-2010) knock was only available as a DMR so it was not supported on the gauge. The knock parameter that was in the setup menu was something we got from our material we licensed from Ford but didn't make sense to us. We included it with the disclaimer that deciphering was up to the user as opposed to just eliminating it. Honestly, we've had very few comments or requests for knock, which seems to be much more prominent in tuning GM cars, so we have not dedicated a lot of time to adding DMR support which would be a huge effort.

About CS, the question is are these few people really unhappy with it or just demanding a phone number? We answer emails and forum questions every day, most within 12 hours and strive to get all within 24. No issue has ever not been address, and we've taken care of everyone that has had an issue with a gauge that we know of. We get quite a few comments on our CS, people seem happy with our response times and handling of issues. This is a fairly simple gauge, and adding a significant premium to the price to hire someone to answer the phone because a few people don't want to use a computer isn't what most people want. We have a forum, Facebook, and Twitter account too, many ways to contact us. If you need to order by phone we have over 100 dealers who can handle that. I really don't think it's fair to say our CS is bad just because we don't advertise a phone number when we've put a lot of resources into other platforms such as our forum. Also, we do followup by phone if justified.

Speaking of knock, I am very familiar with the GM knock system and how to interpret knock readings. However, on the Mustang or Ecoboost applications, I see both positive and negative readings which you don't see with GM. Is it correct to assume that positive is actually adding timing to the base value due to lack or detonation? Negative is removing timing? It is common for me to see 0.5 to 1.5 at WOT, but when in a very high load situation that would almost certainly cause knock, such as heavy load at a low rpm, I see negative values such as -2, -3.

As of last summer the Aeroforce gauge does support knock on the 2011+ Mustang GT.

    You have it backwards.

Positive numbers in the knock sensor PID work just like a GM knock sensor: positive knock is actual knock count. what the car does with that knock count depends on the tune.

Negative numbers in the knock sensor PID are the degrees of timing the knock sensor is adding based upon how the car is tuned. If the car is tuned to add up to say 2* of timing by means of the knock sensor adder, you could see this number being as "low" as -2 on the log. If the car registers positive knock count, then the car will generally remove timing to stop the knock activity from occurring.

    Hope that helps

To side track, I have a dual gauge setup and need one rebuilt......is that possible?

You'll need to contact [email protected]. It will need to have the current hardware, the old stuff is obsolete. They will give you options.

Yes, thank you. I'm wondering if the sign is backwards on the reading. I have a Solus scan tool as well as our gauge, both will read fairly high negative numbers, such as -6 going up a high under load at low rpms. Positive numbers at WOT are limited to 1, maybe 1.5. Would make sense based on what you said that it's actually transmitting +6 (retarding timing) going up the hill in 6th gear, and -1 (adding 1 degree) at WOT.

It would be the other way around. The -6 you're seeing would be the knock sensor adding 6* of timing to the car and the 1 to 1.5 you're seeing at WOT is actual knock count the knock sensor is reporting.

Old thread I know but I am having same issue.. what firmware version is your gauge and what year is your car? I am getting the random 100-500 numbers. 99% of the reason I wanted this gauge was to monitor knock and use the RED LED's as a knock indicator.
